On the top left corner of the screen năm 2024

Multiple iPhone users are reporting a strange software bug that blurs out the top left portion of their screen for absolutely no reason, leaving that part of the display completely unreadable.

As compiled by SvetApple, users in Apple's own support communities and the MacRumors forums have reported a problem when running iOS 15 on Apple's various best iPhones including the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13.

One user reported seeing a "blurry rectangle" after updating their iPhone, as you can see from the image, a whole rectangle in the top-left-hand corner of the device is completely illegible for absolutely no reason.

Blur on iPhone

At least one of these reports dates back to 2020, showing it to be a persistent issue. However, a MacRumors forum user reported the same problem just a few weeks ago running iOS 15.5 on an iPhone 13 Pro. If you take a screenshot while experiencing the problem you can see the blurring in the picture, indicating this is clearly a software issue.

According to SvetApple, this bug is related to Apple's day and night mode settings, and thankfully can be fixed. While rebooting the device can sometimes alleviate the issue, a bit of digging on their part has revealed that you can actually fix the issue without restarting your device.

Rather, you just need to go into your Settings, hit Display & Brightness, and then switch between day and night mode, which should get rid of the blurry corner right away.

As noted, this is a really strange bug and it seems odd that this has persisted for a couple of years through numerous software updates including iOS 15. It isn't clear at this time if the problem still persists in iOS 16 or if Apple is aware and has any plans to fix the issue.

At least you now know that if you're experiencing a similar issue, you know exactly what to do to get your phone working properly again!

Any one else seeking a blurry rectangle at on their screen after doing the update? Any idea how to make it go away? Or how to actually report it to Apple?

Happened to me this morning, it’s an easy fix. Go to settings, Display & Brightness then switch from light to dark. Should 100% get rid of that weird blur. If not reset and it’ll be back to normal.

(im not a BOT bruh I'm a real human lol)

This happened to me a a few mins ago and decided to research about what caused it. luckily i’m not the only one that experienced the top left blurry thingy, if ur experiencing the same thing and don’t wanna restart ur phone just go to the display setting and keep on switching the “Light mode” & “Dark mode” and it should go probably away on its own.

My wife’s SE (2nd gen) just produced this upper left corner blur this morning. I restarted the phone and it went away. I am not sure how to feel about this. If it is a software fix, no biggie. But if we need to replace this handset, I want to make sure we do that while it is under warranty.

Yes. Happened on mine too. Top left. Perfectly shaped. Only effects top left. It has to be the update. I’m so glad someone else has exactly what I have! Relief. So unless were the only tel. Not hardware issue. It’s all update.

Just suddenly happened to my iPhone 11 ios 14.2 Even screenshots have the blur. The power off screen does not. I rebooted it while plugged in, for whatever that is worth, and the problem went away. This is some sort of rendering bug, and the power off screen must use a different rendering system.

The Dark/Light mode change works temporarily for me until I go back to horizontal mode, which is how I first noticed this. Mine has a map in it with some results from Hawaii, where I wish I was. (Currently in rainy, cold Oregon.) Haven’t yet tried to restart and do the horizontal test again, but this is super annoying.

If it was Apple maps it is probably a bug in the code. Remember how they used to have those little gray squares when the data was loading? I cannot replicate this on my device, but try this:

  1. If it is not Apple Maps delete and reinstall the app.
  1. If you have Apple Maps or if 1) does not work, go to the map application used and view it in horizontal.
  1. Search for random locations in the horizontal view.
  1. Close all applications and restart your phone

I am interested to see if that works

  1. If that does not work, have a friend send their location via text with the map app you used.
  1. View the text in horizontal, then click on the link
  1. This should open the map application in horizontal mode and trick the memory into resetting

I had the same experience today i.e 23/20 when I started the phone.Till late night it was fine.My phone was updated one week back.to the latest IOS .I own X-R .After I was advised to restart the phone it disappeared. But apprehensive it will appear again.

Since this is a software related issue, I think it is just small bug that would be tough to replicate or trigger intentionally.

Or both our phones are compromised by an elite team of hackers from foreign county’s military that is using millions of other devices to attack core infrastructure causing many nations to devolve into failed states. This would lead to food shortages making cannibalism the only option for survival, especially if there is a nuclear winter.

So worst case scenario, you become a cannibal that lives in a nuclear wasteland.

(sorry, I clearly have way too much time on my hands)

For me the problem is 100% reproducible. I have an iPhone XS running iOS14.4. Each time an application makes use of the horizontal mode, e.g. make a photo with the Photos app and try afterwards to look at it horizontal mode, or I look at a photo in WhatsApp, it occurs.

Settings - Display & Brightness - Appearance: Dark -> Light or Light --> Dark, immediately overcomes the problem until the iPhone is used the next time in horizontal mode.

Since the the day before yesterday the problem spontaneously evaporated, i.e. it has not occurred to me anymore, after my iPhone XS had this disease for 4 days.

I did not install any further updates apart from the one on WhatsApp, which initially did not helped.

So, I'm happy. Hope the problem disappears for my iPhone XS forever.

This happened this morning after newest OS update 14.4.1. I changed to dark display, it disappeared but I don’t like that mode. Switched it back to light mode display & it stay gone. Just like jarmarl comment below.

I started having the same issue for the past couple of hours! I just restarted my device and it is now gone, I haven’t tried the settings thin.. just a restart and it’s gone for know. I hope it doesn’t keep happening!

Is it in the top left corner or on the top left corner?

“In the top left” is the commonly used expression in England. “On the top left” is fine too, particularly for a map or chart.

What is the E on the top left corner of my phone?

It indicates that your phone is connected to your carrier's 2G EDGE network, which happens when you have poor reception. If you got yourself a new Android phone or a new iPhone, you might be surprised to spot an “E” icon appearing on occasion on the top of the status bar on your phone screen.

What is the E in the top left hand corner?

They've informed us that the 'E' actually stands for 'EDGE', or 'Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution', in tech speak. Apparently, EDGE was the forefather of 3G or 4G, back in the days where we didn't actually use the internet on our phones, most likely because it took about three hours to load anything.
