Plant therapy vs young living reviews

If you’re looking for essential oils at an affordable price that are 100% pure and the highest quality possible, look no further! Forget confusing MLM companies, there is a better way! In this honest Plant Therapy review, you will discover their extraction methods, company values, testing standards and my personal review of Plant Therapy so you can decide for yourself.

Finding high quality, pure essential oils at reasonable prices is an absolute must when utilizing essential oils to improve your health and the health of your loved ones. There are so many essential oil brands to choose from so finding the highest quality oils with the lowest possible price can be a tall order.

Plant Therapy essential oils have been on my radar for a very long time. Trusted blogger friends have sworn by Plant Therapy’s essential oils and so with the added benefit of free shipping on every order and each essential oil being a great price, I knew I had to give this family owned company a go!

When I first learned about essential oils it was thanks to a friend who was, you guessed it, selling Young Living. I didn’t know any different so the price tag just told me that I was going to need to use the oils I bought, sparingly. I soon got tired of the gimmicky way I was encouraged to sign up to sell myself so that I could get the oils at a lower price. Having to order through my friend was at times very convenient. It also quite a long time to get the oils in hand. Doing my own research allowed me to explore several different and much more affordable essential oil companies.

What Made Me Try Plant Therapy?

If I can be totally transparent I must admit that convenience and a better affiliate program enticed me into trying Plant Therapy.

Mountain Rose Herbs has been my essential oil source of choice for years now. However, since Covid, their shipping times have been incredibly slow. Not to mention expensive.

I’m a part of several blogging/natural health communities on Facebook so I asked my fellow bloggers and health enthusiasts which essential oil company they preferred. I kind of expected everyone to say Young Living or Doterra. I don’t have anything bad to say about those company’s product, but as mentioned above, I will not get entangled in a multi-level marketing company. Too many people have to get paid each time a product is bought which drives prices sky high.

To my surprise, the answer was unanimously Plant Therapy from my trusted blogger friends. Avid essential oil users swore by Plant Therapy’s line of essential oils.

About Plant Therapy:

Plant Therapy was founded in 2011 in Twin Falls, Idaho by Chris and Amanda Jones. It is Christian based and family owned. The company was originally a natural skincare company owned by Amanda’s mother. Chris and Amanda bought the company and dropped everything but the essential oils. In September of 2015, Inc. Magazine recognized Plant Therapy as one of the fastest growing companies in the nation and the number one fastest growing company in Idaho. Plant Therapy has grown 8,000% since 2011!

To maintain the highest standards of quality, each product is put through a rigorous testing process. As a result, Plant Therapy has earned the Leaping Bunny certification as well as the USDA Organic certification.

With transparency and integrity at the forefront of this company, Plant Therapy is an essential oil company I have grown to trust.

And by transparent I mean that the test results of each essential oil is available on the oil’s product page. Before you hit the ADD TO CART button, you can pull up the safety data sheet report as well as GC/MS test reports for that particular oil.

Plant Therapy also believes in giving back and is having a positive impact on not only their community but also the world! They have generously donated to organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club, Alzheimer’s Association, Make a Wish and the Africa Heartwood Project.

With thousands of Plant Therapy reviews for each oil, you can see just how popular this essential oil company has become!

Their Quality Standards Are Unmatched:

Essential oil expert, Robert Tisserand is one of the world’s leading experts in aromatherapy. He has over 40 years of experience. Mr. Tisserand has educated people all over the world and a consultant on the science and benefits of essential oils and their safe and effective application. He wrote one of the first books to bring awareness to aromatherapy in 1977, The Art of Aromatherapy, and is a co-author of Essential Oil Safety (2nd Edition, 2014), a book that sets industry standards for the safe use of essential oils.

Robert Tisserand partnered with Plant Therapy for over five years helping them develop third-party testing and formulating essential oil blends as well as Plant Therapy’s Kidsafe Line.

If you know anything about Robert Tisserand, you know that anything he is involved in is of the upmost quality and safeness.

Plant Therapy’s essential oils have the Kidsafe label if they are approved to be used on children. I love this because it takes the worry and guesswork out of finding if a particular oil is safe enough to use on a child.

Plant Therapy also offers organic essential oils which are surprisingly not much more expensive than the regular oils.

Plant Therapy has 4 in-house Certified Aromatherapist on staff to ensure quality.

I also would like to mention that the Plant Therapy website has tons of education for anyone looking to learn the basics of essential oil usage, safety and dilutions. They also have a wonderful blog full of in-depth information. Visit their resource page for lots of helpful downloads to help you on your essential oil journey!

They are committed to educating their customers properly. You can also contact customer service with questions and actually get a prompt and friendly response!

The Process of Testing Essential Oils:

As a first step, Plant Therapy’s oils are organoleptically tested by their Certified Aromatherapists. Organoleptic testing means smelling the oil from a testing strip over time – some characteristics do not reveal themselves until the oil has been evaporating for 30 minutes or more. It also includes evaluating the color, consistency and general appearance of an oil, and comparing it to what a good quality oil should look and smell like.

Next, each batch of essential oil is sent to one of several third-party laboratories where they undergo multiple tests including GC/MS testing (Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry).

As mentioned above-these tests are readily available and easy to find on the Plant Therapy website.

Plant Therapy’s Essential Oils Extraction Method:

Most of Plant Therapy’s essential oils are extracted using steam distillation. Their citrus oils are extracted using cold pressed extraction. They also carry a few CO2 extracted oils and also a few solvent extracted absolutes. Below is more information about the different methods of extraction.

Steam Distillation: The most common process of extracting an essential oil is by distillation, a process that isolates the aromatic, volatile element of the plant with steam.

Hydro-Distillation: Hydro-distillation is very similar to steam-distillation with one major difference. With traditional steam-distillation, steam passes through the plant material, carrying the essential oils in the vapor to be separated later. During hydro-distillation, the plant material is placed directly in the water that is then heated to boiling. The essential oils are carried through the vapor, condensed, and decanted to separate the essential oils from the water.

Cold Pressed: Expression, or cold pressing, is used primarily for citrus fruits like orange and lemon, where the essential oil is obtained in tiny pockets in the peel or rind. Oils extracted by cold pressing are the most volatile of essential oils and can evaporate quickly when exposed to air.

CO2 Extraction: The CO2 extraction method yields a greater number of aromatic compounds than any other distillation process, making this extraction method one of our personal favorites! In certain conditions at a low temperature Carbon Dioxide or CO2 can be pressurized to become a liquid. This liquid then acts as a solvent and is used to extract the oil from plants. After extraction is completed, the extraction vessel is brought back to normal temperature and the CO2 rapidly converts to gas, leaving behind a high quality oil that is free of solvents.

Solvent Extraction (only used for absolutes): Flowers too delicate to be processed with heat are soaked in a solvent, usually hexane that extracts the volatile elements. The solvent is then evaporated leaving only the most fragrant constituents behind. This process produces what is called an “absolute”. Here is a more in depth step by step process: 1) Plant material is macerated in a solvent. Usually hexane. 2) After several days the solvent is removed, leaving the viscous, fragrant concrete. 3) The concrete is dissolved with high proof alcohol. 4) The mixture is chilled, and separates into plant waxes and fragrant tincture. 5) The fragrant tincture is vacuum distilled to evaporate off the alcohol, leaving an absolute. All absolutes are extracted using solvent extraction.

Where Does Plant Therapy Get Their Oils?

Plant Therapy sources their essential oil from all over the world. Each farmer, distiller and supplier is carefully evaluated to ensure their quality standards are maintained.

Are Plant Therapy’s Essential Oils “Therapeutic Grade”?

There is no organization in the essential oil industry that labels an essential oil therapeutic grade. It is actually a meaningless marketing term other companies use to boost their credentials. However, anyone could use the term so Plant Therapy decided not to. Instead, Plant Therapy decided to be 100% transparent with their testing which speaks for itself.

Where to Start with Plant Therapy:

Whether you are new to essential oils or just new to Plant Therapy, Plant Therapy offers some wonderful sets that will give you a good amount of essential oils at an affordable cost. I would recommend the Top 6 Organic Singles Kit. It includes eucalyptus oil, lavender oil, peppermint oil, tea tree oil, lemon oil and sweet orange oil. Each oil comes in a 10ml bottle and lovely box!

Each essential oil company also has their own essential oil blends. Their Top 14 Blend Set includes most if not all of them!

You might find my Top Essential Oils I Can’t Live Without for a list of oils you might want to try! You might also need my Dilution and Conversions Chart for essential oils.

Plant Therapy’s Kidsafe Line:

In my opinion, if you have children under the age of 10, Plant Therapy is the essential oil company for you. They make it so easy to know which oils to use and which to avoid. Great caution should be taken when using essential oils on children . However, they are incredible for helping us parents get through many childhood illnesses in a natural way.

What I love is their super convenient Kidsafe roll ons. They have a roll on for better sleep, killing germs, focus, boosting the immune system and calming tantrums! Man, I wish I had known this company when my daughters were younger! And if you’re concerned that essential oils might not be the route you’d like to go with your child’s health but are still curious, Plant Therapy offers a sample back of 1ml bottles of every Kidsafe roll on for only $18!

You can find anything you could possibly need for your child with Plant Therapy’s Kidsafe line.

What Other Products Does Plant Therapy Carry?

There are other Plant Therapy products other than essential oils. They also care essential oil diffusers, personal care products, household products, CBD products and even pet-friendly essential oil products!

They also offer DIY ingredients including butters, carrier oils, a large array of hydrosols and aloe vera gel.

My Personal Plant Therapy Review:

I’ve used quite a few essential oil companies in my 11+ years of being an essential oil user. Honestly, from Young Living, Spark Naturals, Mountain Rose Herbs and now Plant Therapy, I have had very few complaints about the actual quality of the oils. So when you have found great quality in several companies it comes down to the company itself. Do their values reflect integrity? How is their customer service? Is pricing and shipping affordable and fast? In the past year, I have used mostly Plant Therapy oils and I can say a BIG YES to all of these questions.

Plant Therapy’s quality is posted for all to see in their completely transparent testing. You might not know this but there are actually essential oil companies that charge you for their testing data! For someone who runs a skincare line and freely posts my recipes and even my ingredient sources, I love transparency.

What I’ve learned since my Young Living days is that high priced oils don’t always mean the best quality. Thanks to Young Living, you get what you pay for does not apply in the essential oil world.

I also want what I want right when I want it-lol. Plant Therapy’s free and fast shipping is great for most of our needs for instant gratification, not to mention it’s very convenient.

One last thing I love about Plant Therapy is that you can get 10ml, 30ml or even 100ml bottles of every essential oil! I find this very convenient since I love lavender so much! A 100ml bottle of lavender is only $40 and it lasts me quite some time!
