Pelican soap Japan review

Quality skincare is very important to Japanese women, so this subscription box is always a treat!

Last month the menu booklet was redesigned, and it looks fantastic.

Nice information about each product, plus a little something about Japanese beauty as well.

Dolly Wink Eyeshadow. Dolly Wink is a popular Japanese cosmetics brand which specializes in the ‘gyaru‘ style. There was a remarkable Dolly Wink pink eyeliner back in December’s box.

This eyeshadow palette has three brown shadows of varying shades, plus a pink shade. It has a slightly shimmery finish, and also includes an applicator.

Pelican Peach Body Scrub Soap. This contains peach seed and konjac to exfoliate the skin. It also smells absolutely delicious!

The bar itself is a cute heart shape, though if you turn it upside down, you get another shape…

Well yes, it is shaped a bit like a peach. According to the menu, soap scrubs like this are also used to keep one’s behind nice and smooth. So the shape is somewhat appropriate, yes?

Moving on…

Patting Cotton Swab. These are a pack of five oversize cotton buds which are soaked in beauty essence. They are moisturizing, and designed for use after washing your face.

The idea behind the ‘patting’ is that it is very gentle, and avoids any harsh rubbing and pulling of the skin that can happen when applying lotions to the skin. They are also soaked enough that you could probably use one two or three times at least, if you kept them carefully in the resealable pouch.

Hello Kitty Silicone Puff. I’m familiar with foundation sponges, but I’d never heard of a silicone version! Apparently they have become very popular, especially the teardrop shape. I understand that their popularity is due to the fact that they don’t soak up and waste foundation, they are clear so you can see exactly where you are applying, and they are very easy to wash.

This is an kawaii version, and as you can see is a genuine Sanrio product! There were three other possible characters, but I think this Hello Kitty is super-cute!

Rilakkuma oil blotting paper. I remember when I was a teenager that this type of face blotting paper was very popular, especially for oily teenage skin. It was just enough to take the shine off your nose without adding a whole lot of makeup. We never had anything this cute though!

This is a pack of 50 sheets, and is perfect to pop in your bag. It’s particularly useful after a long journey or at the end of the day when you’re feeling a bit shiny!

Mapepe Shampoo Bubbling Net. Mapepe is a Japanese beauty accessories company. January’s box had an eyelash curler from the same brand.

The purpose of this net is to create maximum bubbles and lather from your shampoo. It’s especially good for people with sensitive scalps, if you don’t want to rub the skin like crazy to make the shampoo foam. Apparently it can also be used for shower gel and soap. If it’s anything like the net that came with the soap in last August’s box, it will be fantastic!

As always, my favourite items are always skincare and accessories. I think the makeup is fun, but while I do like the colours I prefer matte eyeshadow for my own use.

The body scrub soap is really nice to have, especially as the weather will hopefully get a bit warmer! Also it smells lovely. The oil blotting paper will also be useful in warm weather, so I’m happy to hang on to them for a little while. I also like the little kawaii touches with the paper and the silicone puff. There’s a little bit of YumeTwins influence there!

I love moisturizing products because my skin is quite dry, so the the patting swabs will be useful and also a new skincare experience to use!

My favourite thing is actually the bubble net! I love and still use the soap net I mentioned from the August box, but it’s become very torn and scruffy, so I can finally replace it with this.

Value-wise, it’s impossible to do a complete breakdown because all these products come from Japan so are not easily sourced. I managed to find the bubble net on a site that ships to the UK for £8.18, and also the eyeshadow for around £9. Given that the box costs around £20, the value is pretty damn good.

There is a nicely balanced selection of products this month, and I’m especially looking forward to smelling of peach!
