How do you switch the view where you can modify the structure of the report without viewing any live data?

A Custom View is a copy of a view that has your selections and filters applied. You can use Custom Views to save your filters, sorts, or selections, without changing the original view. Custom Views are a good option if you find yourself changing a Tableau Server or Tableau Online view every time you open it.

Considerations when using Custom Views:

  • A Custom View doesn't change the original view.

  • If the original view is updated or republished, your Custom View is also updated.

  • If the original view is deleted from the server, your Custom View is also deleted.

  • If you change Groups or Sets in your original view, your related Custom Views don’t change.

  • To change the underlying workbook, see Edit Tableau Views on the Web

A public view allows anyone with access to the original view to see your custom version in the Other Views list.

Note: Private Custom Views are hidden from the Other Views list. You can share the URL with anyone who has permission to access the original view.

  1. In the toolbar choose View.

  2. Select Manage.
