Ask a stranger on the street for their favourite bargain skincare brand, and there's a 98% chance they'll say it's CeraVe. I made that statistic up, but I stand by it. CeraVe has gained a cult status thanks to their affordable, gentle yet effective cleansers, moisturisers and treatments that deliver long-lasting hydration, deeply moisturise the skin and strengthen the skin’s barrier. The CeraVe cleansers are notorious crowd pleasers, but Australians haven't been able to buy more 'active' CeraVe retinols or exfoliating treatments available in the US. Now, the dermatologist-backed brand has launched their new CeraVe Skin Renewing range. You've probably seen the three purple products on your Instagram and TikTok feeds. There's a retinol treatment, vitamin C serum and plumping night cream, and each one costs less than $45. I've been trialling them for a couple of weeks. Keep scrolling for my first impressions. Side note, you can learn about CeraVe in this YouTube video below. CeraVe Skin Renewing Reviews. Before we get into my first impressions... what is CeraVe Skin Renewing, you ask? Think of the new night cream, vitamin C and retinol serum as your targeted treatments that can slot into an existing routine to manage premature ageing skin concerns. Unlike some cosmeceutical treatments, the CeraVe serums are designed to be effective yet gentle enough for sensitised skin of all ages and genders. Plus, each of these active skincare products contains the same core base ingredients as every CeraVe cleanser and CeraVe moisturiser:
Now, onto my CeraVe Skin Renewing reviews! Note: These are my 'first impressions', because active skincare requires consistent use over at least six to eight weeks to really gauge results. 1. CeraVe Skin Renewing Retinol Serum, $41.99.Fast facts:
How to use CeraVe Skin Renewing Retinol Serum: Apply no more than one pump onto cleansed skin in the evening. This formula won't give you that spicy feeling, but you can layer the CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream (more on that product in a sec) over the top for extra comfort if you have drier skin. New to retinol? Apply every second or third night to begin with. You should be able to work up to every night fairly quickly if you like. And don't forget - no point using a retinol serum if you're not wearing sunscreen every single day! My CeraVe Skin Renewing Retinol Serum review: This is the retinol serum for people who are scared of retinol serums. Everything about it is user-friendly, from the ingredients and creamy lotion texture (see above), to the slow release and MVE tech, and lack of fragrance. I'm yet to uncover the CeraVe Skin Renewing Retinol Serum retinol percentage, but my guess would be .1% or .3%. Might not sound like much, but either percentages are clinically-proven to be enough to yield results with consistent use. The price is pretty right, too. Googling CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum vs Skin Renewing Retinol Serum? The CeraVe resurfacing retinol serum isn't available in Australia (yet), but think of the purple skin renewing retinol as being your strong silent type, while the aqua resurfacing retinol packs a punch. 2. CeraVe Skin Renewing Vitamin C Serum, $41.99.Fast facts:
How to use CeraVe Skin Renewing Vitamin C Serum: Think of applying your vitamin C serum like drinking a glass of orange juice. Sure, you could chug some OJ at night-time, but it's way better in the morning. Apply a pea-sized amount on dry skin after cleansing (or splashing your face with water), or layer on top of a hydrating serum if you like. Follow with moisturiser if your skin needs it, or just your broad spectrum SPF50+ sunscreen. My CeraVe Skin Renewing Vitamin C Serum review: I've tried a lot of vitamin C serums, but I haven't seen one quite like this before. First thing that makes it different is the texture (see above). Again, it's a light lotion consistency that feels like applying a silky moisturiser rather than a traditionally runny serum. It doesn't have a scent, dries down quickly and leaves skin with a soft-diffused radiant finish. It also layers beautifully and won't pill. But the best thing about this vitamin C serum is that it basically can replace any other hydrating serums in your morning routine. The 3-in-1 vitamin C, niacinamide and hyaluronic acid formula covers all bases, so you can save money and precious sleep-in time. 3. CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream, $38.99.Fast facts:
How to use CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream: When I first saw this product, I thought, does CeraVe Skin Renewing night cream have retinol in it? A lot of retinol products come in purple packaging, but to be clear - this is not a vitamin A night cream. However, the reason I'd recommend applying at night over daytime is because of the thick balm texture. Suss out how this product applies in real time in the video below. For a one-and-done PM routine, apply to cleansed dry skin after removing makeup and sunscreen. Or, applying this over the top of your retinol serum or after exfoliating will further enhance the benefits of your skincare by supporting the skin barrier. My CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream review: Finally, let me tell you why the CeraVe night cream is my personal favourite of the Skin Renewing range. Everything from the formula and ingredients to the texture and how it looks and feels on the skin is premium, without the exxy price tag. I find the fragrance-free balm transforms slightly as it sinks into the skin. You can see that even in the sun, my skin has glow, but doesn't look dewy. It has a demi-matte, velvet finish on the skin that doesn't feel greasy like you might expect from a rich night cream. The tub is smaller than I thought it'd be, but then I felt how nourishing and balm-like the texture is, and realised a little goes a long way. What does CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream do?Our non-greasy, intensely moisturizing skin renewing night cream is designed to soften and renew the look of tired skin, and our patented MVE technology encapsulates ceramides to ensure efficient delivery within the skin's barrier and slow release over time. Can I use CeraVe night cream every night?Learn more about CeraVe's ingredients here. Always read the label and follow the directions for use. Use it every night before bed in your evening skincare routine. For best results, precede the application of the night cream with the application of the CeraVe Ceramides Moisturising Cream. Does CeraVe skin renewing cream have retinol in it?Protection, prevention and reversal are the key needs for anti-aging, and CeraVe offers products for each by coupling ceramides and hyaluronic acid with ingredients like vitamin C and retinol in their Skin Renewing line. Is CeraVe night cream being discontinued? Our Skin Renewing Night Cream has not been discontinued, but is currently out of stock in most locations. We apologize any inconvenience this has caused.
