Title shortened from: Update failed with "0xC1900101 - 0x30018 the installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during SYSPREP operation"
This is a domain-joined Windows 10 Pro. Customer has been rejecting updates for "a while" which is obvious, since the system is running version 1511.
Initial problem with performing the update was This PC can't run Windows 10" for the reason: "We couldn't update the system reserved partition" which was resolved by stealing a couple hundred MB from C: and giving them to the Service Partition, then the upgrade proceeded until the above error was received 30-40 minutes into the update.
Every attempt to update is now receiving the same error. Have attempted the following individually and in combination:
Warning: This script was written specifically for this system. Do not run this script on another system.
- Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
- Right-click on FRST.exe and select "Run as administrator".
- Press the Fix button.
- If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally.
- When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
- Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Hi,
Please remove Driver Booster from the system, it looks like this program is the cause of an driverproblem in Windows. After that, reboot the machine and run Windows Update again, if it fails please post a new copy of the CBS folder and the setupapi.dev logfile.
Step 1.
- Open Windows Explorer and browse to the C:\Windows\Logs folder.
- Right-click on the CBS folder and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
- Now the message will appear, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
- Click on the Yes button here.
- Attach the file CBS.ZIP in your nex reply.
Step 2.
- Open Windows Explorer and browse to the C:\Windows\INF folder.
- Right-click on the file setupapi.dev and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
- Now the message will appear, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"

Hi,
Try to install the following update with DISM.
- Open the Start menuof Windows and type CMD.
- When you see Command Prompt on the list, select the option Run as administrator.
- Copy and paste the following command into it, and press enter. (Leave the CMD window open!)
- Now, download the following update (KB4540724) to: C:\WUTemp - Or copy this file from the download directory to C:\WUTemp. (Important!)
- Downloadlink: KB4540724
- Copy and paste the following commands one for one into the command prompt and press enter after each.
Code: CD C:\WUTemp EXPAND.exe windows10.0-kb4540724-x64_0b6897fb9a65608a472f5b51185a78e281cab1f9.msu -f:* C:\WUTemp DISM.exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:C:\WUtemp\Windows10.0-KB4540724-x64.cab

Open an elevated command prompt. Copy and paste the following command into it, then press enter.
Code: copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
This command will create cbs.txt on your Desktop. Zip this file and attach the zipped cbs.txt to your next post.

I did try to install
Feature update to Windows 10, version 1903 and Feature update to Windows 10, version 20H2
both would not install not sure if I had the correct kb images.
I have a feeling that once I get past these I will be able to move forward with windows updated and windows 11.

Please don't install other updates, this makes it difficult for me to check the CBS.log.
First remove everything from C:\WUTemp!
Follow these instructions again to install an update with DISM.
- Now, download the following update (KB4540689) to: C:\WUTemp - Or copy this file from the download directory to C:\WUTemp. (Important!)
- Downloadlink: KB4540689

Ok ran windows update it failed with a blue screen I didn't catch the message but I believe it is the same
