As a recap, three variants will be sold: GLX M/T, GLX A/T, and GLS A/T (as shown). Regardless of which variant is chosen, the new 2023 Mitsubishi Xpander gets a revised Dynamic Shield grille, which now combines gloss black bars in the upper section and a mesh grille down below. Flanking it are new T-shaped headlights, which are halogens on the GLX and LEDs on the GLS. The upper LED strip, which used to be merely park lights, are now your LED daytime running lights, and these are also where your LED turn signals are located. Below its face is a faux skid plate to give the Xpander a rugged look.

In order to give it better proportions, the Xpander’s front overhangs are extended by 75 mm, while the rear overhangs have also been extended by 45 mm. Its ride height has also been increased by 20 mm, which is now at 225 mm. To complement this, new 17-inch alloy wheels now come as standard, and it’s bigger than last year’s 16-inch wheels. Lastly, the rear end of the Xpander also benefits from a revised rear bumper, a cleaner tailgate design, and new LED taillights.

While the interior aesthetically looks similar to the previous model, material quality has been significantly improved. Padded soft-touch surfaces now adorn the dashboard, while the door panels now come with synthetic leather. There’s also a new electronic parking brake for the first time, but this is just for the GLS A/T variant. There’s also a new 7-inch infotainment system that comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Mitsubishi also added new digital controls for the air conditioning, giving it a modern look even if this doesn’t come with automatic climate control. The GLX variants come with mechanical dials though.

The 2023 Mitsubishi Xpander uses the same 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine as before, which means it produces 105 hp and 141 Nm of torque. However, whereas overseas models debuted with a CVT, the Philippine-market Xpander still uses the same 4-speed automatic as before (or a 5-speed manual for the GLX M/T).

The 2023 Mitsubishi Xpander is now on sale across all dealers nationwide at the following prices:

  • GLX M/T: P1,030,000
  • GLX A/T: P1,090,000
  • GLS A/T: P1,160,000

Xpander 2023 Philippines

Mitsubishi has officially unveiled the refreshed Xpander Cross at the 2022 Gaikindo Indonesia International Motor Show. It follows the facelifted Xpander, which was launched in the Philippines earlier this year. The design updates are similar, although the Xpander Cross still does feature unique embellishments that make it sportier and more rugged.

The most obvious change comes at the front, where the Xpander Cross now gets familiar T-shaped headlights in a new interpretation of Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield design. At the rear, it gets the same taillight setup as the new Xpander. While this end looks decidedly toned down with fewer black plastics, the rest of the vehicle still features an abundance of black trim.

As with the updated Xpander, the Xpander Cross packs no powertrain changes under the hood. It’s still the same 1.5-liter, four-cylinder gasoline engine that delivers 103 hp at 6,000 RPM and 141 Nm of torque at 4,000 RPM. It pairs with a CVT, a contrast to the somewhat archaic four-speed automatic transmission that’s present on the local model.

Interestingly, Mitsubishi fitted the Xpander Cross with active yaw control, a feature that first appeared on the fourth-generation Lancer Evolution. It’s essentially a dynamic stability control system that controls the driving and braking forces between the left and right wheels. It’s currently unclear whether this feature will make it to international versions of the Xpander Cross.

With the 2023 Mitsubishi Xpander Cross now in Indonesia, it seems like only a matter of time before the new model arrives in the Philippines. We wouldn’t be surprised if Mitsubishi Philippines decides to bring this vehicle in this year, perhaps as soon as this September at the Philippine International Motor Show. When the new Xpander Cross does land in the country, expect it to carry a price tag of around P1.3 million.
