The eighth edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will take place in South Africa from February 10, 2023 and the ICC announced the fixtures for the tournament on Monday.

Where is T20 World Cup 2023 held?

The event starts with host South Africa taking on Sri Lanka in Group 1 at Paarl. Cape Town and Gqeberha are the other two cities that will host matches.

Defending champion Australia has been pitted in Group 1 and will start its campaign against New Zealand on February 11. The tournament will also offer an India-Pakistan encounter in Group 2 on February 12.

Top two teams from both groups will make it to the semifinals, to be played on February 23 and 24 in Cape Town. The final will take place on February 27 at the same venue.

The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, which will be the 13th edition of the Men’s Cricket World Cup, has been scheduled between October 2023 and 26 November 2023. Originally, the event was supposed to take place from 9th February to 26 March 2023 but the dates were moved to October and November 2023, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event can mark the first time that India has hosted the tournament on its own after having co-hosted previous tournaments in 1987 (with Pakistan), 1996 (with West Pakistan and Ceylon), and 2011 (with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh).

Format

There should be 10 teams playing in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, the same as in 2019. The format will be the same as the 1992 and 2019 cricket world cups, where every team plays with the remaining teams in a round-robin (randomly selected team) fashion. Finally, four teams will compete in a semi-final, with the top two teams advancing to the final.

Qualification

The top 8 teams including Host team India will qualify automatically and the rest of the 2 teams will be selected for the 2022 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League matches.
