There will be another winter break next season but, as a result of Qatar 2022 being held later in the year, the domestic downtime will co-incide with the tournament and run for almost five weeks from November 14 until December 16. Clubs in the divisions below the Premiership will continue playing through the World Cup period and will conclude their fixtures on the first weekend in May before the play-offs begin. As usual, the Premier Sports Cup will kick off the season with the group stage starting on the second weekend in July but the semi-finals and final will take place in 2023. The key dates for next season are: Premier Sports Cup group stage kick-off – July 9/10, 2022 cinch SPFL league kick-off – July 30/31 2022. World Cup break (Premiership only) November 14-December 16. SATURDAY June 3 2023 is a date pencilled in Ange Postecoglou’s diary. That day will host next season’s Scottish Cup Final at Hampden and, of course, that was the silverware that eluded in the Greek-Australian in his debut campaign as Celtic manager. The Premier Sports League Cup was the first trophy to arrive in December 19 last year with a dramatic 2-1 win over Hibs at the national stadium when two goals from Kyogo Furuhashi completed a thrilling comeback. And the Premiership was cemented with a 1-1 draw with Dundee United at Tannadice on May 11 with a 6-0 triumph over Motherwell at Parkhead three days later bringing down the curtain on an unforgettable campaign. And it all starts again on the weekend of July 30/31 when the champions kick off the defence of their championship at Parkhead with the SPFL fixtures due to be announced tomorrow morning. The new Premiership season will include a five-week break from the weekend of November 12/13 until December 17 while the World Cup Finals, being held in Qatar, are played in winter for the first time. There will be a round of fixtures on Saturday, December 24, Christmas Eve, and there will be a midweek card four days later with the traditional New Year matches due on Monday, January 2. The World Cup Finals hiatus means the top-flight league season will not conclude until the weekend of May 27/28. The Premiership play-off final matches will take place on June 1 and 4, while the 2023 Scottish Cup Final is scheduled for June 3. The Premier Sports League Cup Final is due at the national stadium on Sunday February 26 next year.
