Got a shiny new PC for my office at work, running windows 7 Ultimate just like my previous machine. However I normally listen to music (via Spotify) through an in-ear headphone, I use just 1 ear-bud so I can still hear knocks at the door, phones ringing and my colleagues talking to me. I can't for the life of me find an option to set the sound output to mono. Somehow it works on my old machine (still windows 7) but I'm not sure if that's due to the on-board sound being different and maybe not as up to date. A Google search seems to bring up a few responses from Microsoft that its no longer an option in win7. Is this an overlook from Microsoft? it makes single earpiece devices unusable for programs with no inbuilt mono support, and people who are hard of hearing in 1 ear would only hear one channel of audio as-well. Just posting this in the long shot hope someone has come up with a solution. ---12th April 2013, 06:30 AM  Rep Power 0 I know this is an old post but people may still be looking for an answer, and I have found it About two or three months ago my left speaker in the laptop died. It did not bother me because most games and music seemed to sound just fine with one speaker. Movies and such usually get routed through the headphone jack to the surround sound system. But today I wanted to listen to a podcast and there was no sound. Windows volume meter showed there was infact something playing but it was not coming out the right speaker. I tried playing something else and it played fine. So I figured that the pod cast must be playing only out the left channel. So started my quest, to set windows 7 up to play sound in mono. Going to playback devices and configure for the speaker only had a stereo setting. I have a realtek driver loaded and nowhere could I find a mono setting. So I finally ended up at the realtek site and downloaded a generic vista/win7 driver. It did not want to install because the driver was not signed. I uninstalled the old driver. I tried again to install the generic driver I had just downloaded without success. So finally I decided not to use the setup.exe and instead double clicked on alcupd.exe (the driver update program). Success. Only thing is that because I uninstalled the laptops sound driver, I no longer have any of the environment or equalizer settings. Not a big deal for me, If I need them I will just reinstall the laptop sound drivers. So I right click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and choose playback devices, then the properties for the headphone. I renamed headphone to Internal Speaker. Then under enhancements I chose Headphone virtualization. Success, now can hear both the left and right channels on the one good right speaker, with just slightly less volume. I was able to hear my podcast just fine with the new settings. So I guess "Headphone virtualization" equals Mono sound. Hey it works for me, maybe it will work for you. Ở dưới đây mình sẽ giúp các bạn làm rõ nguyên nhân và một số cách khắc phục cơ bản nhất đối với hiện tượng âm thanh laptop bị nhỏ hay bị rè. Âm thanh mà bạn nghe được từ máy tính hoặc điện thoại có thể là mono (âm đơn) hoặc stereo. Nếu như bạn chưa biết thì stereo là loại âm thanh mang lại trải nghiệm nghe nhạc hay xem phim cực kỳ tốt, vượt trội hơn so với mono bởi vì stereo phát âm thanh từ nhiều kênh (hoặc nguồn) khác nhau và chúng có thể đi từ trái qua phải hoặc ngược lại. Ví dụ như bạn đeo tai nghe chơi game FPS để lắng nghe tiếng bước chân, thì khi địch chạy từ trái sang phải, bạn sẽ nghe được âm thanh chạy từ trái sang phải. Trong khi đó, mono thì hoàn toàn ngược lại. Âm thanh mono sẽ chỉ đến từ một kênh (nguồn), hoặc gộp nhiều nguồn âm thanh lại thành một nguồn duy nhất và đương nhiên sẽ không chân thật được như Stereo. Ví dụ như trước mặt bạn là 2 chiếc loa, một cái đặt bên trái, một cái đặt bên phải và chúng được trang bị tính năng mono. Khi 2 chiếc loa này phát nhạc thì âm thanh phát ra từ 2 chiếc loa đó là như nhau. Nói tới đây, nhiều bạn sẽ thắc mắc nếu mono không bằng với stereo thì tại sao các bạn lại cần dùng tới nó và tại sao Windows 10 lại có tính năng này. Câu trả lời đơn giản là phụ thuộc vào nhu cầu sử dụng của bạn. Hãy thử đặt trường hợp bạn nghe nhạc hoặc xem phim nhưng sợ phụ huynh gọi không nghe, hay có khách, hoặc người giao hàng tới nhà bấm chuông nhưng không nghe thấy. Nên bạn phải đeo tai nghe theo kiểu nửa trong nửa ngoài, nhưng nếu bạn đeo tai nghe như thế thì tính năng stereo lại không phát huy được tác dụng. Bởi vì bạn sẽ không nghe hết được âm thanh phát ra từ bản nhạc hoặc bộ phim. Cụ thể hơn thì giống như mình đã giải thích ở trên, stereo hoạt động theo cách phân bố âm thanh theo một hướng từ phải qua trái hoặc ngược lại. Nên nếu bạn chỉ đeo một bên tai nghe thì sẽ có một số âm thanh bạn sẽ không nghe được. Chính lúc này là lúc để tính mono phát huy tác dụng. Mono sẽ gộp các nguồn âm thanh lại thành một khiến cho 2 bên tai nghe đều nghe âm thanh như nhau. Chính vì thế nên dù bạn có theo một tai nghe ra thì cũng không sợ bỏ lỡ mất những âm thanh của bài nhạc hoặc bộ phim. Bạn cũng có thể áp dụng cái này đối với những chiếc tai nghe bị hư một bên đấy. Hướng dẫn bật tính năng mono trên Windows 10Bước 1: Bấm Windows và chọn Settings. Bước 2: Chọn Ease of Access.
