2023 K5 EX Premium Package
2023 Kia K5

For people looking to purchase a reliable mid-sized family Sedan with the option to add a bit of a sporty appeal, the Kia K5 may be worth considering. It works well as an individual or family vehicle and is comfortable enough to take longer trips while remaining an easy car to drive around town. But which of the 2023 Kia K5 trim levels should you buy?

Many drivers prefer the Kia K5 over comparable vehicles, like the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry, because of its affordable price point, good fuel economy, and sleek, sporty look. Kia also offers a GT model, which packs a bit of extra power with a 290-horsepower engine.

2023 marks the third year that Kia will offer this vehicle without any significant changes from the previous year’s model. You’ll see only the following minor enhancements and updates to features.

  • A panoramic sunroof package is now available for all GT models, giving the vehicle an even sportier appearance.
  • A heated steering wheel is standard on the GT-Line AWD model.
  • Standard acoustic glass on the front door windows on the EX, GT-Line FWD, GT-Line AWD, and GT model.

Choose from five trim levels this year —the LXS, GT-Line, GT-Line AWD, EX, and GT. All of them have a 180-horsepower engine (except for the GT model) which provides you with the standard amount of power you need to get around town and offers a smooth and comfortable ride.

They also all come with a good amount of technology that gives the modern driver everything they need to stay connected and safe on the road. Many customers are pleasantly surprised by its capabilities in this area.

The Kia K5 also ranks high in safety, and the 2022 model received the IHS Top Safety Pick award last year. All models come standard with Kia Drive Wise Driver Assist Technology, which includes collision-avoidance systems and blind spot detection. Other safety features include numerous airbags, anti-lock brakes, and traction control.

2023 K5 EX Premium Package

2023 Kia K5 LXS vs. GT-Line FWD

Both models have a sleek-looking exterior, with a standard silver front grille and illuminated door handles that match the body paint color. Another nice exterior feature is the heated side-view mirrors, which prevent ice build-up in winter conditions.

The Solar Controlled Glass helps reduce interior heat build-up for warmer climates and summertime. You’ll find this feature on the windshield, front and rear windows, and back glass.

The spacious 16 cubic foot trunk automatically opens when you stand near it with your Smart Key, making it easy to use for running errands and convenient for families on the go.

Another significant difference comes with the wheels. The LXS comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, whereas you’ll get the 18-inch alloy wheels with a gloss black machined finish on the GT-Line FWD.

On the interior, the LXS comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen display that provides information and entertainment options while driving. The GT-Line FWD model provides a larger, 10.25-inch display and includes navigation and Kia Connect, which relays real-time highway traffic information from SiriusXM Traffic.

You can’t get Sirius XM Satellite Radio in the LXS model. However, it does come standard in the GT-Line FWD trim level.

From a technology perspective, both models provide wireless support for Apple and Android users, with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, making it safer to use your mobile device hands-free in the car. There are also Bluetooth Wireless capabilities, with the ability to pair multiple devices.

You’ll also find a variety of power and USB ports, with charging USB ports in both the front and second row of the vehicles. However, if you’re looking for a Wireless charging option, you’ll need to go with the GT-Line FWD option.

Various other comfort and convenience options come standard in both models, such as dual-zone climate control, bottle holders in the front/rear doors, illuminated sun visor mirrors, and much more.

However, you won’t find a power-adjustable driver’s seat in the LXS model and will need to upgrade to one of the higher models to have that feature. Also, if heated and ventilated seats are important to you, you won’t find those in either of these models.

The GT-Line FWD Model also offers an additional red color option for the interior, whereas the LXS only comes with one available option (black cloth). You also have the option for SynTex Seating Trim in the GT-Line FWD model, but the only option in the LXS model is cloth.

You can upgrade the GT-Line FWD model to get additional safety features with the Premium Package option. This option provides you with LED Projector Headlights, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Junction Turning, Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go, and Highway Driving Assist.

2023 K5 EX Premium Package

If you choose the new Panoramic Sunroof Package for the GT-Line FWD, you’ll get the Panoramic Sunroof with Power Sunshade and added LED reading and room lights within the interior, giving it an even sportier appearance.

2023 Kia K5 GT-Line FWD vs. GT-Line AWD

You won’t find too many major differences between the GT-Line FWD and GT-Line AWD, as the only significant difference is the All Wheel Drive (AWD) capabilities. The GT-Line AWD comes with a Snow Mode option on its Drive Select, whereas the GT-Line FWD only has the other standard driving styles.

Other than the AWD capabilities, the GT-Line AWD has everything else you’ll find in the GT-Line FWD, including the Panoramic Sunroof and Premium packages option.

2023 Kia K5 GT-Line (FWD & AWD) vs. EX

The K5 EX model comes with all of the standard features of the GT-Line Model (except for the GT-body styling) to provide you with a more luxurious look to the sedan, with a lot of the extras that you won’t find in the LXS.

All of the interior options include the SynTex Seat Trim, and this model has an option for wood accent trim in the interior. The heated and ventilated front seats come standard in the EX, as well as rear vents for the air conditioning. The front center console also has an added USB port to provide additional device charging capabilities.

Perhaps the most significant difference with the EX model is that it comes standard with the Panoramic Sunroof with Power Sunshade, which makes it a good option for those who like this feature but don’t want the sportier GT body style.

You can upgrade to the Premium package to get LED turn signals, power-folding side view mirrors, LED tail lights, and a Bose Premium Audio System with 12 speakers (vs. the 6-speaker system in the other models). You’ll also get some added conveniences, like a power-adjust driver’s seat with memory and a heated steering wheel.

From a safety standpoint, an upgrade to the Premium Package will give you Park Distance Warning in the front and Parking Collision Avoidance Assistance in the rear. You’ll also get the surround view mirror, navigation-based smart cruise control, and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Junction Turning.

2023 Kia K5 EX vs. GT

If you’re looking for the top-of-the-line K5 model with all of the available bells and whistles, you’ll want to look at getting the GT option. The biggest difference between this option and the other models is the power. The GT model comes standard with a 290-horsepower engine versus the 180-horsepower engine in the other models. It also has an 8-speed dual-clutch auto transmission and 19-inch alloy wheels in a gloss black machine finish.

Other sporty features that make this model stand out include the quad-tip dual exhaust, heated GT Sport Bolster front seats, and steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

This car definitely appeals to drivers who want faster acceleration and exceptional performance out of their vehicle in both wet and dry conditions. In fact, in one test, the K5 GT outperformed the BMW 330i Sedan in these two areas.

Its sport-tuned suspension makes all of these capabilities possible. You can even add optional Pirelli P-Zero tires to enhance the performance further, and possess ultimate control of the vehicle in every road or condition you face.

The inside of the GT model looks upscale, and it comes standard with the Panoramic Sunroof with Power Sunshade. It also has the option to upgrade to the Bose Premium Audio System with 12 speakers.

If you’re looking for the enhanced driver’s-assist safety features that you can add to the GT-Line and EX models, you can also get those with this model by upgrading to the GT1 package.

Which 2023 Kia K5 Trim Should You Buy?

When looking at the different models of the Kia K5, the decision comes down to what you want to ultimately get out of the car. If you’re looking for a reliable, comfortable, and affordable family sedan, the LXS model provides the basics that you need without breaking the bank. However, it lacks many flashier features and will stand out as a basic model car.

If sporty styling is what you like, the GT-Line models provide that little extra something on the exterior that adds to the overall aesthetic. You’ll get the bigger wheels with a black finish and other black trim features, like the mirrors. You’ll also get some added interior features (like a larger touchscreen with more capabilities) and the ability to upgrade the vehicle even further with the optional packages.

Of course, the GT-Line AWD makes the most sense if you live in an area with snowy conditions. It gives you the security of AWD with the added Snow Mode Drive Select option. All of the other models are only FWD.

The EX model gives you a more luxury-looking sedan with many extra features you’ll find in the GT-Line models. It also allows you to upgrade for some of the added safety driver-assist features. Another bonus to this model is that it comes standard with the sunroof.

Finally, choose the GT model for the ultimate in sport and performance. This car gives you the thrill of driving something powerful at a fraction of the cost of some of the other comparable sedans. It’s the best choice for the driver who likes ultimate control over the road and the vehicle, and wants something that will perform excellently and look great as well. The GT is definitely a “driver’s” car, and it shows.
