  A tepid entry by the otherwise great (in the romance genre) director Takahiro Miki. So, Blue Spring Ride or Ao Haru Ride is a shoujo manga by Io Sakisaka, who also wrote Strobe Edge and Love Me, Love Me Not. I’ve seen the live-action film adaptations of all 3 now and my problems with Blue Spring Ride are kind of the same as Strobe Edge. Again, the first act or even the first hour was quite good. Takahiro Miki is pretty good at making movies about puppy love and photogenic young people so it’s rather fitting that he adapts to the big screen last year’s popular romantic anime, Blue Spring Ride. This is shoujo material of the purest quality, full of daydreams and rosy blushes. I’m not too fond of the genre, but I wanted to see the film version because Miki’s past projects have impressed me, like the musically themed Solanin which stars Aoi Miyazaki in one of her best performances ever.
