I was so excited when I saw the launch of the new Nivea line, which includes their micellar water and cleanser. For the reason that I never expected them to create those products. I am just going to be straight forward with this review and tell you guys that there is nothing too special about this cleanser. Don’t get me wrong, it is a nice cleanser, and that is it. It gets the job done, and unlike my old whip cleanser, this wasn’t drying at all.  When I was reading all the information at the back of the tube, I was surprised to see that the second to the last ingredient was BENZYL ALCOHOL. This was a surprise because this cleanser was advertised as a 0% Alcohol cleanser. Since I am not a skincare expert and I need to learn more about ingredients, I messaged Nivea Philippines regarding this, and here are some of the important parts of their response. …but this is to assure you that there is nothing to worry about Benzyl Alcohol in your NIVEA Whip Foam. Our products only contain a small percentage of Benzyl Alcohol for the sole purpose of improving our products’ smell as it is known to have a mild and pleasant scent. We understand the name “Benzyl Alcohol” may be confusing, but know that it only has “alcohol” on its name because its chemical composition contains “OH” (oxygen bonded with hydrogen) just like other alcohol groups. However, it has no direct effect on your skin as it is completely different from the usual “alcohols” in the market (i.e. disinfectants like ethyl alcohol). As supported and approved by the Food and Drug Association (FDA), since our products are free from ethyl alcohol, our products can then claim “0% alcohol” or “without alcohol” or “alcohol free”. I do applaud Nivea for still including benzyl alcohol in their ingredient list, even though it may create confusion because it makes them transparent. In conclusion, this is a good cleanser, but don’t expect anything special. I will not repurchase this cleanser, but this is good if you are looking for just an everyday cleanser. I would rather have a cleanser that has more of a long term effect on my skin.
