Mgm grand hotel and casino reviews

How did it strike you on arrival? In the Skylofts, you feel like you've been let into some kind of delicious secret with these suites. You'll take a private elevator from MGM's grand tower to the Sky Lobby on the 29th floor, and from there, you'll be whisked to one of the 51 two-floor, loft-style accommodations high above the Las Vegas Strip.

What’s the crowd like? You might see other Skylofts guests, but likely not. This is a fairly private crew, although you may see them in the Sky Lounge, which, as the name suggests, is for the exclusive use of Skylofts guests. They're young and hip, and/or high rollers at the hotel who have been invited to stay. They're a well-heeled group.

The good stuff: Tell us about your room. I've been in both the one-bedroom and two-bedroom lofts (they have up to three bedrooms). Depending on the time of year, you can actually score these lofts for less than you might think. While the listed prices are between $2,000 and $5,000 per night and the one-bedrooms are 1400 square feet, we have seen prices as low as $1042 for the one-bedroom—a great deal, considering the fact that your stay comes with transportation to and from the hotel (maybe even in the hotel's Rolls Royce Ghost); VIP everything and no standing in line; and private butler service. They'll even stock your room with whatever you want before you arrive, and draw a bath for you.

We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us? The beds here are top-notch, with beautiful white Anichini linens and lots of pillows. In fact, there's a pillow menu with 15 different kinds of pillows with different fills and firmness.

How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase? The rooms in Skylofts are designed to feel like actual residential apartments, so there is cool art (black and white sculptures), and there are plenty of places to entertain. Lots and lots of TVs and technology to control everything (an "environment remote" lets you control the temperature, curtains and lights). It's the little extras, though, that you might appreciate the most, since these rooms really are pretty far away from regular hotel amenities (or a Starbucks). A private bar, espresso machine, different teas and snacks are all stocked in the rooms.

Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down. These rooms are among the sleekest on the Strip. Skylofts were the first to get televisions embedded in the mirrors, and you can watch TV from your cool, infinity-edged bathtub (which also incorporates color therapy, in case you feel like turning the place into your private spa). And if you do, you'll be happy to find amazing Bulgari amenities, including various Bulgari tea-scented bath tea bags that you can toss in (or your bath butler can).

Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word? The Wi-Fi is great and included in the $44 resort fee.

Room service: Worth it? Some of the restaurants in MGM Grand offer room service to Skylofts, and Skylofts staff do tell you that they can make virtually anything happen. So if you have the scratch and want to orchestrate an in-room dining experience with a restaurant, you might as well ask!). The in-room dining menu at MGM Grand is also good, with options like burgers and pizza you build yourself, and a good variety of mostly American choices (salmon, filet mignon, sandwiches). If you decide to entertain in your loft, you can order from their catering menu.

Staff: If you could award one a trophy, who gets it, and why? The butlers really do whatever you'd like, from stocking your kitchen with snacks (no, you don't pay extra for them) to tracking down toiletries, drawing a bath, delivering flowers. And the concierges in the exclusive lounge make sure you don't wait in line and have preferred seating in restaurants and in the shows.

Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you. Skylofts doesn't have its own pool or gym but it's just a short trip down your own elevator bank to all the attractions of the massive MGM Grand.

What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay? The most memorable thing is the view! All the rooms have double-height windows in the living rooms. Make sure you speak to the concierge, though, about precisely which view you want.

Bottom line: worth it, and why? These rooms would be perfect for a milestone anniversary or a honeymoon. They're huge, private and feel both luxurious and really contemporary. Every MGM hotel has a rate calendar, so if you want to treat yourself on a night that the rates are a bit softer, you only have to look.

With an instantly recognizable emerald green facade and dazzling architecture, the MGM Grand Las Vegas has been an essential landmark of the Las Vegas Strip for multiple decades. Its cinematic appearance—combined with its record-breaking room count—make this resort one of the most recognizable resorts in America, if not the world.

History

Since December 1993, this casino has bookended the Strip at its Tropicana intersection. At the time of its launch, it was the largest hotel complex in the world, and remains the largest single hotel in the United States to this day. The MGM Grand is a fixture in Hollywood films, and even with the competition of T-Mobile arena just across the Las Vegas Strip, A-list talent is a constant presence at the MGM Garden arena.

Before the MGM Grand existed in its current form, it was a smaller hotel named the MGM Marina, a stone’s throw from McCarran International Airport, now the Harry Reid International Airport. This hotel closed in 1990, but its bones remain part of the MGM Grand today. The MGM Grand was initially conceived as a more family-friendly resort in the ’90s with a Wizard of Oz theme. Now operated by Blackstone and MGM Resorts International, with subsidiaries like Diaoyutai MGM in China, this massive hotel casino has since evolved.

Today, it is a luxurious complex that often hosts the world’s biggest stars at the MGM arena, invites flurries of nightclub-goers and A-list talent to the Hakkasan club every year, and allows for leisure and decadence in equal measure.

Calvin Harris and Tiësto have semi-permanent residencies at the Hakkasan club, and the famous illusionist David Copperfield calls this resort home as well. Family-friendly Jabbawockeez, the incredible Kà by Cirque Du Soleil and even a Hunger Games exhibition make a stay at MGM an immersive experience, and this is all before we even get to the amenities, which MGM Grand has many. This includes five outdoor pools, outdoor fun in the form of TopGolf and an impressive spa and fitness center.

Rewards Program

MGM Resorts International’s MGM Rewards program is a loyalty program that offers benefits at all 10 MGM-owned casino properties in Las Vegas, Nevada. The MGM Rewards program contains two levels: M Life Rewards and M Life Rewards MasterCard.

M Life Rewards Elite Status

M Life Rewards members can earn status with the Mlife Rewards program through their play and stays at MGM-owned properties. There are five tiers: Sapphire, Pearl, Gold, Platinum, and Noir.

  • You start out in the Sapphire tier upon creating an account. This tier gets you mobile check-in and personalized offers and room discounts. When you create your account you also are now able to earn points that will get you comps and other things on the Strip.
  • The next tier is the Pearl tier and you need 25,000 tier credits to reach this level. You’ll now get 10% more points earned playing slots, an extension on when your points would expire from no activity, and a dedicated line at participating buffets. You also get access to all the Sapphire perks.
  • At 75,000 tier credits, you’ll now reach Gold tier. You’ll be able to experience everything Pearl has to offer along with an increased 20% bonus on points earned playing slots and a priority hotel check-in line at the front desk.
  • Platinum tier is obtained at 200,000 tier credits. You can reap all the benefits from the tiers below along with a now 30% bonus on points earned playing slots, priority access to valet and taxis, and an annual complimentary cruise on Royal Caribbean or Celebrity Cruises.
  • Noir is for the hot shots. This status is invitation-only and if you’re lucky enough to be invited, you’ll get 40% bonus on your slots played, guaranteed advance hotel and restaurant reservations, and complimentary limousine service to and from the airport to your hotel.

Earning M Life Points and Tier Credits

M Life is a little confusing when it comes to earning points or redeeming them. Each game gets you different amounts of points, then that will change based on what tier level you are, and for redemptions, it depends on if you’re local or traveling to Las Vegas and they run promotions all the time to give you opportunities for more comps.

Let’s explain the two types of rewards for M Life though.

  1. Base Points – this is what will earn you free plays at slots and video poker and also give you Express Comps, which can be used on hotel room charges, dining, or entertainment. There is no structure to earning or spending this as it depends on your status, where you’re located, and the promotions running at the moment.
  2. Tier Credits – this determines the elite status that you have within the M Life program. You get tier credits based on your play like base points, but also can earn tier credits when booking hotels and spending money on other non-gaming activities like dining and entertainment.

Players are able to track their tier levels and comps through the Mlife Rewards program online account (on the website).

The MGM Resorts properties that participate in the M Life Rewards program include Bellagio, Delano Las Vegas, Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand, The Mirage, Monte Carlo, New York-New York, Luxor, Excalibur, and Circus Circus.

You can also sign in to M Life Rewards and check your status anytime to see if you have access to special room rates and offers.

High Roller Areas

MGM Grand now has two areas where customers can play high-limit slots, tables games, and/or poker.

The first MGM Grand high roller area is located on the top floor of the casino near the sportsbook. The space holds around 10 tables, including blackjack, roulette, baccarat, mini-baccarat, and a craps table.

The second MGM Grand high roller area is located near the sportsbook and the rooms on level 8. The High Limit Room is located on level 8 of the MGM Grand. The room holds around 50 slot machines, including penny slots to high-limit slots that require a large bet.

Some of these games include Wheel of Fortune Millionaire, IGT Megabucks Diamond progressive, Wheel Of Fortune Hollywood Squares, and Jurassic Park.

Admission to the high rollers areas is offered on a first-come, first-served basis; there is no need to use Mlife Rewards cards or tickets for admission.

Casino Hosts

MGM Grand Las Vegas has a team of casino hosts that work to provide the best service for their high rollers, as well as their honored guests.

These hosts have many years of experience working in the MGM Resorts casinos. Hosts are available for guests who want to dine at a certain restaurant, reserve hotel accommodations, or receive show tickets.

MGM Grand hosts are available around the clock every day of the year. They provide high rollers with gambling information and help players who need assistance with their Mlife accounts.

Credit Lines

MGM Resorts International offers some of the best credit lines in Las Vegas.

Some MGM Grand properties offer credit lines at around $100,000 per customer. These casino hosts are able to increase or decrease these lines depending on their customers’ needs. High rollers are able to ask the casino hosts for an increase in credit or to have a line that they can use on several tables at once.

Credit lines are offered to customers based on their play. This play can be tallied through Mlife, which is MGM’s player rewards program. Customers using the Mlife card will have information stored so they do not have to keep track of every time they gamble.

The casino host can see everything these players have bet previously by logging into the account. The host can then approve the credit line increase after seeing that the customer has been playing for a while and is a valued part of the casino.

Rooms

MGM Grand features the sports lounge, Level Up. The sports lounge is located on Level 8 of the casino. The lounge features a number of large screens for football, baseball, basketball, and other sporting events.

There are several couches in the room that create social areas perfect for watching parties. Free chips and salsa are offered to customers while they watch games at this sports lounge.

You’ll also find the MGM Grand Poker Room, which has 28 tables and is one of the biggest poker rooms in Las Vegas. The poker room is open 24 hours a day and features low-stakes tables, as well as high-stakes tables.

Poker tournaments are held every day at the MGM Grand Poker Room. Customers can participate in No-Limit Hold ‘Em, Pot Limit Omaha, Seven Card Stud, and Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo Split games for regular events. The poker room also offers daily tournaments with buy-ins ranging from $75 to $1,500.

If you would rather play table games, there are plenty of options available. Table games offered at the MGM Grand include blackjack, craps, roulette, baccarat, Asian games, Three Card Poker, Pai Gow Poker, Casino War, Money Wheel, Caribbean Stud poker, Let it Ride Bonus Poker and Ultimate Texas Hold ‘Em.

With plenty of games to choose from, there’s always room for you at one of these tables.

Games at MGM Grand

Table Games

Long-time veterans and new table gamers can join together at the MGM Grand to enjoy the high-energy atmosphere and non-stop action. Here are some of the games they offer:

No-Limit Hold ‘Em

No-Limit Hold ‘Em is one of the most popular games that is offered at MGM Grand. This game is perfect for those who like to wager big and watch their chips stack up as they play. Players play against each other in this game and can wager any amount they like at any point when it’s on them.

In Texas Hold ‘Em, you get dealt two cards, which are called pocket cards. Everyone is dealt two pocket cards. Five community cards are shared by everyone as well. The players then decide which of their seven total cards they want to use to make a poker hand out of the five community cards and their own personal hole cards that nobody can see but them.

Pot-Limit Omaha

Pot-Limit Omaha is a game in which you’ll use four cards for your hand and the best five-card poker hand out of those four cards will win. Pot Limit Omaha is played with a minimum bet of one big blind and a maximum bet of three big blinds. This means that between you and your opponents, there must be at least one big blind.

Seven Card Stud

Seven Card Stud is a poker game in which you are dealt seven cards throughout the course of the game. You use those seven cards to make your best five-card hand. The game starts when each player is dealt two pocket cards. Then, three community cards are placed face-up in the middle of the table. This draw round is followed by a betting round, where players can wager or fold their hand. The next draw round consists of one card being dealt to each player, then another betting round.

The final draw round consists of a single card being dealt to each player, and then a final betting round. After the final betting round, there is a showdown where players combine their best five-card hands from the pocket cards and community cards in order to win.

Players who prefer high-stakes action will love the stakes that MGM Grand offers for this table game.

Roulette

Roulette is one of the most common games found at MGM Grand. The casino offers both American roulette and three-card European roulette. American roulette is your traditional game of chance, with 37 pockets on the wheel. Players are able to make their bets before the ball is dropped.

European roulette uses a single-zero wheel, making it easier for players because they know that there is only one pocket in which the ball can land.

Craps

Craps is one of the more complicated games at MGM Grand. Players have several choices when they sit down to play this casino favorite.

The basic bets in craps are Pass Line Bet, Come Bet, Don’t Come Bet, and a Field Bet. A Pass Line bet has a house edge of 1.4% while a Come Bet has a house edge of 2.7%. Don’t Come bets have a house edge of 1.4% and a Field bet has a house edge of 11%.

The best way to play craps is with an optimum strategy, which requires players to have incredible luck or be an expert at the game. In order to achieve optimum play, players must overcome the house edge and will only be successful with a few rolls of the dice.

Baccarat

This game is another favorite at MGM Grand. The game features three types of bets: Player, Banker, and Tie.

The player will be on the offensive during this game while the banker tries to make sure they do not lose their money. There are six hands players can make, including Player 0, Player 1, Player 2, Banker 0, Banker 1, and Tie.

With four hands in play at a time, the house edge is pretty low for this game with a House Advantage of 1.06%. The best way to play baccarat is to bet on the tie every time it is offered because that will give the player a house edge of 0.24%.

Pai Gow Poker

This is a popular casino poker game that requires players to make one high hand and one low hand from their seven-card hand. The best way to play this game is in a team with other players, because it allows for a number of strategies to be used. The game has a low house edge of 1.41%.

Slots
