Some users of Adobe Acrobat Reader may encounter an error when they attempt to open a PDF file from their email client such as Microsoft Outlook. An error may appear that says “There was an error opening this document. Access denied.” There is a simple fix for this error. Just follow these steps.

From Acrobat Reader, select “Edit” > “Preferences“.
Select “Security (Enhanced)” on the left pane.
Uncheck the “Enable Protected Mode at startup” box.
Select “Yes” to the prompt about being sure about making this change.
Click “OK“.

You should be good to go! Adobe Reader should now open files just fine.

This is more a nuissance than a major problem but it is getting old so it would be nice to find a solution if it exists.

I'm in a Windows 10 laptop in which I have installed both Office 2007 and Office 2002. The reason I have both is because I prefer working in 2002 but will occasionally use Office 2007 despite its ribbon. I've done this for many years.

Recently (past few months) I've been getting an error whenever I open Word 2002. The popup error is shown in the screenshot below. I just acknowlege the error and everything continues fine which is why I say it is a nuissance more than a problem.

The MetConv file seems to just be a metric conversion table. As directed and searched for and viewed the Metconv.log. Two exist:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office10 C:\Users\username\Anderon\Local\VirtualStore\Progr am Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office10

They are uninformative and identical. Just a list of possible conversions. If I delete them, they are recreated.

I've narrowed down the occurances of this error. It seems to occur if I start up Word 2002

after

Word 2007 has been used. So I am guessing (without knowing much about it) that there is a conflict between where 2007 and 2002 put or use their Metconf files, but I really do not know.

I have had this issue before when working with the same file using two different Adobe Acrobat products, like Acrobat Reader and Acrobat Pro (or even with just with Acrobat Pro by itself).

In this case I had to make sure that the file is not being opened simultaneously with both programs , or being synchronized to a cloud storage service simultaneously by both programs as I am opening the file.

Additionally, in Adobe Acrobat Pro, under Preferences-> Categories-> General... I have unchecked " Show Online storage when opening files", "Show online storage when saving files" and "Open PDFs from last session".

I've also observed that when I save a file that I just edited with Acrobat Pro, for example, the program performs the Save As function correctly but that doesn't means it will exit my current active document automatically.

Unless I specify during the Save As method to change the filename (not just the directory where I want to save it in) the file will remain actively opened in my Acrobat Pro until I exit. That is one of the scenarios noted.

On the other hand, I've also noticed that I get this message if I save the file to another folder but with the same filename.

When I get this message in this last scenario it appears like the warning is given because the Save As operation performed a "move" of the file from the previous folder to another folder rather than duplicating the filename from the current folder that it was originally saved in to another folder destination (meaning that it is not saved in the current directory that you are working with anymore).

For testing purposes only --- It seems like your best solution is to sure you exit the document in Illustrator (and even close the Illustrator porgram completely) as soon as you finish Saving As , then try opening the Saved As file with Acrobat Pro.

Another possible soultion is to to check in Preferences-> Security Enhanced -> Sandboxed Protections ...turning Off Protected View, enabling/disabling Enhanced Security AND/ OR setting up trusted documents/trusted sites under Privileged Locations
