Education FAQs

How much continuing education is required by the Tennessee Real Estate Commission (TREC) to renew my real estate license?

The Tennessee Real Estate Commission (TREC) requires most licensees to complete a total of 16 hours of continuing education every two-year license term. Licensees are required to complete a TREC Core class every license term which counts for 6 of the required 16 continuing education hours. Your license term begins two years before the expiration date listed on your license.

What is the difference between Code of Ethics and TREC Core?

The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) requires all members to take a Code of Ethics class every three years in order to maintain their membership. More information on the Code of Ethics requirements can be found here.

The TN Real Estate Commission (TREC) requires all licensees to complete a TREC Core class every license term. More information on TREC's education requirements can be found here.

I took a class, but I do not see it posted on the TREC website. What should I do?

First, you will need to create a CE Broker account. Beginning June 2022, TREC transitioned to CE Broker. Your continuing education history will no longer show on TREC's website but instead within your CE Broker account. More information on how to create a free CE Broker account can be found here.

If your class completion is not showing on your CE Broker account, you can contact the school where you completed the course to make sure that they have indeed reported the class completion to TREC. If you are unsuccessful finding a resolution at the school level, you may contact TREC directly at 615-741-2273.
