Home color trends 2023

Design trends have always been a reflection of cultural movement. So much of what comes next is a direct mirroring of what transpired in the recent years and even the past decade. The driver of our 2023 forecast is the idea of reflection - reflecting on what matters to us most, our relationship to the planet and even the way we engage with others: Serenity, Origin, Duality

2023 Trend Story Quiz

Which trend story resonates with you?

Our trends are never just about one color. These three unique trend stories provide color opportunities for walls, trim, accent areas and home décor (furniture, pillows, window treatments, flooring). Each trend story has its own narrative and personality – just like you.

Launch Quiz

One of my favorite things to do is talk about color, so when fall rolls around and the colors of the year are announced, I get pretty excited.  Not only are the Color of the Year forecasts a helpful guide when selecting paint shades, they give me a good idea as to what interior design trends we’ll see developing in the coming months, as well.  So when paint companies like Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, Valspar, Behr, and others recently started announcing their Colors of the Year for 2023, I wanted to share them with you.

As you’ll see, the trending colors for 2023 are a varied bunch, but all are designed to bring a sense of warmth, comfort, and elegance to your home.  And, with a couple of exceptions, most of these shades would work well in just about any room in the house — and with just about any interior design style.

Benjamin Moore Color of the Year 2023

Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year for 2023 is Raspberry Blush, described as “a vivacious shade of coral tinged with pink.”

This optimistic hue is part of Benjamin Moore’s Color Trends 2023, an entire color palette “built to envelop you in vivacious color.”

Besides the 2023 Color of the Year, Raspberry Blush, the Benjamin Moore 2023 Color Palette includes Conch Shell (a gentle dusty pink), Cinnamon (a rich brown with orange undertones), Wenge (a deep chocolate with hints of violet), Savannah Green (a balanced shade of ochre), New Age (an ethereal light purple with a hint of gray), Starry Night Blue (a deep navy color akin to indigo), and North Sea Green (a relaxing blend of blue-green).

Any of the shades in the 2023 Color Trends palette would pair beautifully with neutral hues.  Benjamin Moore recommends Etiquette (AF-50), White Heron (OC-57), Gray Owl (OC-52), and Onyx (2133-10) as neutrals with warm, cool, and neutral undertones– perfectly suited for using as a trim or accent color with Raspberry Blush or any of the other colors in the palette.

Behr’s Color of the Year for 2023 is Blank Canvas (DC-003) a warm, cozy shade of white.  I happen to love that Behr chose white as their color of the year, because it’s a great option for any room in the home.

This shade of white is similar to Benjamin Moore White Dove (which we’ve used throughout our home) and would work well with just about any other color, including other warm neutral beiges and tans.

Blank Canvas could be used to create a calming, welcoming atmosphere in the living room.

I love the look of Blank Canvas in the bathroom.  This shade has the ability to make any space feel brighter and more modern.

As you know I love white walls (and white in general), so I think it’s wonderful that Behr chose Blank Canvas as their color of the year.

White paint can be used in so many great ways throughout the home — not only on walls, but on trim and molding, on kitchen cabinets, shelving, furniture, and bathroom vanities, as well.

Not only is white paint sophisticated, everyone can incorporate it in their home — and this particular shade of white is a classic.

Sherwin Williams Color of the Year 2023

The Sherwin Williams 2023 Color of the Year is a warm, earthy tone called Redend Point (SW-9081).

Described as minimal yet cozy, this color would make a nice backdrop or accent color for living spaces.

And, since it’s a calming hue, Redend Point could be used in a bedroom, as well.

The versatility of Redend Point makes it adaptable to just about any space in the home.

Here, it’s shown as a kitchen cabinet color.  This is a pretty bold choice, but I could see it working well in a bungalow or craftsman style home.

Interestingly, Redend Point is very similar to one of Valspar’s Colors of the Year, Southern Road.

Valspar Colors of the Year

Rather than just one shade, Valspar announced a collection of Colors of the Year for 2023, radiating joy, light, optimism, and warmth.

Valspar Blue Arrow is a balanced shade, merging cool tones of blue with warm undertones.  Here, it’s beautifully paired with white trim as an exterior color:

Valspar Flora is described as a deep, blackened olive, embodying charm and sophistication.

It’s probably no surprise that my favorite Valspar color for 2023 is Everglade Deck (5011-3), a rich midnight blue, described as “an elegant calming hue to restore mind, body and home.”

Not only is it trend-worthy, Everglade Deck is a classic, timeless shade that would bring an elegant touch to any space in the home.  I love it paired with brass, as shown in this chic bathroom:

Using Color in Your Home

Mixing and matching colors in your home doesn’t have to be daunting.  Try styling deep, saturated hues with light neutrals as a contrast.

You can also soften the bold look of color by introducing curved forms and plush textures to create a space that both inspires and calms.
