I would typically use the V350 as master on camera (Xpro3) and the V1 as slave remote, on a stand for directional ambient light. It seems with the V350 as master I am not able to command the V1 slave to go into Multi Flash mode. Is this a limitation of the system?

The X Pro trigger seems to be able to do that (but for all groups simultaneously only).

Not sure if the V1 as master can do it.

Thanks, Michael

No. It's just not that obvious how you do it on the TT350/V350. It has one of the worst radio master/transmitter interfaces ever.

On the V350, if it's been set to radio master mode:

  1. Hold down the MODE button for two seconds, until MULTI appears.
  2. Press the GR/CH [SLAVE] button until you're on the M[aster] group.
  3. Use the wheel to adjust the power level.
  4. Press SET to set the frequency of the MULTI bursts in Hz (cycles per second). Use the wheel to change the value. Press SET.
  5. Use the wheel to adjust the number of bursts per shot.
  6. Press SET.

Thanks a lot! Your instructions worked perfectly.

The button array and interface of the V1, V350 and Xpro master transmitter all seem to have been designed without regard for each other. You have to learn 3 different pathways on each device. But if you can get past that, this is really an awesome flexible system for small flash work, on and off camera.

You're welcome! I used to be a pro tech writer, so I write numbered procedures the way other people breathe. I sometimes toy idly with the idea of making a Godox for Dummies book, since the accompanying documentation is often incomplete or a PITA (the V350's user manual had the same instructions, but it was split over two separate places).

Yeah, the speedlight UIs are different, and it's even worse if you throw a TT600 in the mix: that's yet another UI that doesn't even remotely resemble the others:

TT350/V350, TT600/V850 II, and V1/V860 III/TT685 II UIs (L. to R.)

Note what's MENU on the V1 is C.Fn and Fn on the older units. Also that the TT600's TEST button is upper right not lower left, and the button for setting radio mode is radically different on each one (secondary placement on the SYNC button for the TT350, the MODE button for the TT600, but primary and only function on the rightmost button on the V1 and all the other TTL full-sized speedlights), and that the TT350 has on button labelled SLAVE (and GR/CH)--which is for setting S1/S2 optical modes, not radio. Also, as you found out, the MODE button needs MULTI as its secondary (hold down function) label, but nobody else does that, they use MODE to cycle through TTL, HSS, and MULTI.

Some of the UI difference are that the 350s and the TT600/V850 models don't use dot-matrix LCDs so cannot have soft buttons. But still.

At least Godox appears to have made an effort to get the current generation of speedlights: the V1, TT685 II, V860 III and V850 III to all use similar physical UIs.

V850 III, V860 III/TT685 II, and V1 UIs (L. to R.)

I keep hoping Godox takes the V850 III updates and makes a TT600 II, and that the 350 minis get refreshed with a new UI so they'll all be more uniform, and switching units isn't a brain scramble.

Thanks for the posts. and yes, why can't they at least keep the buttons in the same place. Though camera makers can be just as bad.

I can sort of understand the 350 being different, but why all the variations on the full size flashes? Like you I hope they can get it together.

Yes... I can see that they are attempting to at least unify flashes in the same "class".

Thanks again for your help!

Yup. Definitely a case of no one looking at all the models together as a whole. But I think it's relatively easy to see how the single-pin manual units got to be so different from the TTL units.

The TT600/V850 II UI are older designs that are echoing/continuing the older V850 / V860 (Mark I) UIs:

V850 / V860 courtesy of the wayback machine and flashhavoc.

While the TT685/V860 II were pretty much...uh...paying homage to the Canon 600EX-RT UI.

L: V860 II, R: 600EX-RT

And, as I mentioned, the 350 minis, TT600, and V850 II don't have dot-matrix LCDs like the other models (I think the 600EX-RT was the first speedlite to have a dot-matrix LCD), so you can't have those four buttons with soft menus relabelling them in different contexts.

Like you I hope they can get it together.

I think they eventually will. They need to also look at the AD lights, P2400, and AC-powered monolights, for UI inconsistencies too. Right now, they're still switching around between MENU and the three-line hamburger icon.

The other nice upshot of the V850 III redesign is that they added the ID function (TT600/V850 Ii can't be firmware update updated, and the XPro and ID setting came out after they'd been released).

And I'm ecstatic that I clearly was not the only one to suggest they add the ID setting to the main display on the transmitter when I saw the XProL II. They just need to add it to the lights whenever the channel is displayed.
