Etude double lasting foundation shade review

I’ve heard of this foundation for the longest time. Tons of people have been raving about how amazing it is and how it is a dupe for Estée Lauder’s double wear foundation. Retailing for only 18,000 won, I really wanted to try it for myself. I haven’t tried the Estée Lauder one personally but if there is a good and affordable foundation, I am down to try and test it for you guys. So let’s see if this foundation is worth the hype or not. Let’s go!

A short story about this foundation. It was actually only an online exclusive on Etude House’s website but because it got so popular so fast since a lot of people stated it was almost an exact dupe for Estée Lauder’s double wear foundation, Etude House decided not only to release them in the stores, they also added a lot more shades the the range. I believe it used to only have four or five shades but now it has 8 shades which is almost unheard of in the average K-beauty foundation range.

Product packaging: Packaging for this foundation is nothing special. It comes in a frosted glass bottle with the “double lasting” name printed in the front. Popping off the lid reveals a pump which is always welcomed. You can control the pump relatively well but it doesn’t have that much of a give so even if I only pump half a pump out, it still a bit too much for me.

Colour/ pigmentation: With Jolse’s help in picking out the shades, I narrowed it down to either beige or sand. But Jolse said it sand would be a better match for my yellow undertone skin. Luckily for me when it came, it was pretty much the right shade for my MAC NC20-25 yellow undertone skin. If you are looking for a shade in this foundation but don’t know which one to pick because Etude House’s promo pictures make them look like highlighters, check out Jolse’s blog (here and here). They have all the shades and swatches as well!

Blended into the skin, it is a pretty decent match. I didn’t blend it out well since I just used my fingers but buffed into the skin, it pretty much looks like my natural skintone without being pale looking.

Texture/ Finish: The texture reminds me a lot of Clio’s conceal-dation foundation which I reviewed last month. It has the same great adherence to the skin but I think this one from Etude House is one step up compared to the Clio one. This one seems to effortlessly melt into the skin and doesn’t look cakey. The finish isn’t dewy nor matte, it lies somewhere in the middle. I was scared it might either look cakey or dry on my skin type but to my surprise, it was just right. After about three hours when it settled into my skin, it did start to look slightly dry but I think if I were to wear this foundation in the future, I’d use a super hydrating base underneath like my trusty J.one jelly pack. I’d even go as far as bring a mist with me since I do really like this foundation and the way it looks on my skin. On average, this foundation took about 4 hours before it started to look ever so slightly dry and lasted about 8+ hours before wearing off a bit. Do keep in mind, I don’t set my foundations with powder so if you were to set it, it will last a bit longer.

Okay let’s try this foundation out!

Here is my bare face, nothing on except for some lip balm. I’m getting a bit of redness on my cheeks since I think my period is right around the corner. But on the up side, that means we will be able to test out the coverage whoo whoo!

When you are applying foundation or any sort of base make up, dab it all over your face and then go in with either your brush of your sponge. This will help your brush or sponge not absorb all the product and you get a more even application. If you feel like you need more coverage, you can go in with a second layer. Always work in thin layers to avoid looking cakey!

On the left side is before and on the right is after. Most of my even skintone has been evened out but it seems like I’ll need another layer to cover the redness on my cheeks.

If you look close enough to the right side of my cheeks, my “pores” or uneven skin looks a lot more blurred out. That is because the foundation has such good adherence to the skin, it kind of just filters everything out for you.

Here is my face with two layers of foundation on the right side of my face. Everything seems to have been covered except for the little red spot but I don’t really mind it sort of peeking out. If you want everything to be completely covered, you can always go in and cover it with a concealer.

I could have went in with another layer of foundation but since it looked like it was on the verge of being cakey and dry looking, I opted out to not do that. Most of my unevenness wasn’t too apparent but after couple hours, since I have very dry skin, things started to look slightly drying for me personally. Again, I’d suggest you use a good hydrating primer if you have dry skin like me and also mist once in a while to keep everything hydrated.

And here is my face with everything on.

Coverage: This foundation definitely has a medium to high coverage depending on how many layers you use. I personally went in with two thin layers but if you went in with three layers, you could have definitely achieved a full coverage look.

What is the benefit of double lasting foundation?

The Double Fix system prevents oil from collapsing and pores from getting clogged or glossy to keep your makeup fresh as new. It applies thinly and covers the flaws of the skin with detail, and with buildable texture it naturally increases the coverage without thickening.
