The adobe updater could not be started lỗi năm 2024

I have PS CS2 9.0.2 and it is fully updated. Also, Adobe isn't providing more updates for it. However, everytime I start PS a program called AdobeUpdater.exe also runs. I am running in a non-admin user account on Vista so a pop-up window comes up asking me for my admin password. I can cancel, but then another error window comes up and then I have to click okay. If I don't click cancel a window comes up called Adobe Updater Preferences. I already have the "Automatically check for updates each month" option unchecked in the "Choose the applications to update" box I have all the programs unchecked. Still, everytime I start PS it tries to update again and this slows the startup a lot and requires me to click on several popup windows. The same thing happens if I run as an admin user. I have also checked in PS preferences and I can't find anything there.

Any ideas on how to get this to stop so that it doesn't try to update over the internet and run AdobeUpdater.exe?

Re: PS CS2 keeps trying to update over the internet

Here's a crude suggestion - find the "adobeupdater.exe" file and rename it to something else ... (if there is a .dll file, it may be worthwhile doing the same to that).

As an aside, I had an issue with adobeupdater.exe with Acrobat hoggin 100% of the processor - suspect it was firewall conflicts, or some such, anyway, renaming or deleting it was one option to to stop it running.

Re: PS CS2 keeps trying to update over the internet

You'll have to temporarely convert your user account into an admin account. Log off, log on, start CS2 in admin mode, and when autoupdate runs, change the preferences to disable autoupdate. Close CS2, reconvert your account back into a normal user account, log off, log back on. CS2 will behave from then on.

Thank you!

Thank you! That worked. I had turned everything off in the preferences, but it had no affect, but after I did as you suggested it seems to have worked.

A couple of hours ago that is what I did. It sort of worked, but on PS startup I would still get an error window that said it could not start the update program.

See the post below for a solution.

Disable it with this free program

Microsoft now owns Sysinternals which has some great free utilities. One is AutoRuns. It lists all processes that are set to run automatically via the StartUp folder, ini files, registry, services, etc. Just find the Adobe Updater and any other program you don't want running and disable them. You can always enable them with a click. No installation req'd, just run the program.

You'll be amazed at how many things are set to run on boot-up. I disable everything I don't need because each program takes memory. For example things like Adobe Acrobat speed launcher, iTunes monitor, photo downloader, etc. These things wait in memory and constantly poll the system to see if and when they're needed. You don't need most of these things running in the background wasting your RAM and CPU
