Maybelline creamy matte lipstick review philippines

For months, I have been loving the Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipsticks! I became familiar with them through watching Youtube beauty gurus from the USA. Most of them rave about this lipstick line from Maybelline, and they swear that it’s probably the best lipstick from the drugstore!

The first ever shade that I tried from this line is “Touch of Spice” which I bought from one of my trusted makeup stores on Instagram. I got it for 399 pesos. I found it expensive for a drugstore lipstick, but since it wasn’t locally available yet at the time, I had no choice but to buy. Fortunately, it did not disappoint and to me it was so worth it. So when Maybelline Philippines finally released it here, I was beyond ecstatic! I even had my boyfriend buy me the other shades for fear of missing out (i was stuck at the office at the time)! Lol.

Before I let you know my thoughts, let me share with you the swatches first!

Per Maybelline’s website, there are 20 shades available. I only have 7 of them. I am not sure how many among the 20 shades are now available in the Philippines. These retail for 299php each. Since I got them on sale during SM Beauty’s Lipstick festival, I got them for 199php only! Which made me love them all the more! 🙂

Now onto the swatches! For reference, I have a medium skintone. I use NC35-40 in MAC foundations.

Now, onto how each color looks on me:

Daringly Nude – this one looks pale on me, it is very similar to MAC’s Kinda Sexy lipstick, which is also matte. In the picture it seems to wash me out, but when I see it on me off-cam, I think it still suits me. However, the shade already belongs to my “unsafe nude” lippies category. I have to at least put on mascara and a bright blush to prevent me from looking sick.

Clay Crush – This is also a nude, but has much more peachy brown tones than Daringly Nude. This is now one of my favorite nude lippies at the moment! I like it so much.

Nude Nuance – this is probably one of the most famous among all the shades. It is now my favorite brown lipstick! It is very Kylie Jenner-ish, if you what I mean! This was out of stock in almost all Maybelline counters that I went to.

Touch of Spice – now I don’t think I need to explain this anymore. This is the most popular among all the shades and it suits every skin tone! It is said to be a close dupe for MAC Twig. I have that one too, and in my opinion, Touch of Spice looks better on me! I love love this! I even bought a back up of this even though I am not even half way through my first tube! Haha.

Divine Wine – This is a deep wine red shade. It is said to be a dupe for MAC Diva and MAC Studded Kiss. I have Studded Kiss and wow, they are really the same! I wear Divine Wine more than that because the texture is better. Again, this is one of my faves!

Burgundy Blush – this is also a wine shade, but is much deeper and – burgundier (? LOL) than Divine Wine. I think it is a dupe for MAC Sin which is also a very popular shade among lipstick addicts. I don’t normally wear vampy colored lipsticks on a day-to-day basis, so I am not sure if I’ll ever run out of this one. But it’s a great shade and I will pick this up when I feel like taking my look to the next level.

Last but not the least is Vibrant Violet – this is of course a violet shade. It is a cool-toned violet shade that looks neon in my opinion. This is my least favorite among my collection and I’m afraid I won’t wear this again. Don’t get me wrong, this is a great shade but I just don’t prefer cool, vibrant violet shades on me. I think it clashes with my warm medium skin tone 😦

Now, my thoughts on these lipsticks:

  1. These are indeed creamy. The product name is true. They are not the traditional matte lipticks that are dry and tug on lips when applied. These ones are so creamy and they glide on easily on the lips. I feel like I am just wearing lip balm when I tried them all. No wonder these became a cult favorite among lipstick lovers!
  2. I like the packaging. It is the common packaging that I see on Maybelline’s lipsticks these days (even the non-matte ones). You can also easily see the shade name just by looking at the bottom of the tube, it says the shade name and the sticker mimics the color too.
  3. It lasts on me for about 4 hours. Even if I drink water or coffee, I see just a little bit of fading. It doesn’t claim to be long lasting so that’s fine with me. Plus, since these are creamy and buttery in texture, I didn’t really expect them to be so long lasting. 4 hours isn’t bad for me.
  4. Pigmentation is bomb. Bomb bomb bomb! I am so impressed with the pigmentation, something that I did not expect from a drugstore brand.

Overall, I love love love these so much! If you haven’t tried them yet, then you are definitely missing out!

Thanks for your time reading my thoughts on these. I am really hoping you try them if you haven’t already! Hope you enjoyed!
