Things start picking up here, as this is considered a ramp up in difficulty over previous areas. If you didn't get the ice armor back in Aeria, you might want to get that, but it's a good idea to wait until you gain access to the fast travel portal here, at least. From where you land, you won't be able to do much else other than ride the small platform to the left, keeping a watch out for the two enemies that essentially are bats. Once you get to the end, jump onto land and hit the save point in the next room. As you will see, the volcano is definitely treacherous, with lava geysers and fire dripping from the ceiling.

The lion form might be good for this section, as you can use his dash to get under the four-fireball drop after the double geysers. The enemy right after that is not very threatening, so strike it down and carry on. The triple geysers left of that are blocking your view of blocks, so dash when you have an opportunity and continue into the next room. Here, the lava will recede and you'll need to make it across some platforms before it rises back up again. When you get to the part with the arrow pointing down and to the left, wait until the lava starts going down again before moving.

There are some safe platforms that move with the lava and while the objective is to get to the other side, there is a lone platform that rises with the lava in the middle. This will take you to a music sheet, but you need to upgrade your ice sword for it, which you haven't been able to do just yet, so ignore the platform. Exit the large room with the rising lava via the top left, where it's just a short hop over a geyser to reach a room with the professor from the temple and a big save point.

Diverging Paths

It is at this point that you have a few ways to go. There is one path to the left, as well as two above you. To get to the above ones, you will need to jump on the platforms on either side, then use the ring in the center to double jump to a platform on the other side. For now, start on the left side and double jump to the exit on the right. Note that the serpent-like enemy can be ignored, as it will simply circle around the middle area there. After passing through a small hallway, you will find yourself in another lava-filled corridor, with some strange rock face above you.

Change into the lion form and begin dashing to the right, collecting the meter-filling souls. Note that the statue at the beginning will shoot out a fireball and you want to be ahead of it at all times. When you see a blue chest above you, quickly jump up to it and open it for a Legendary Gem. The fireball just mentioned will light a torch that brings a wall down, blocking you from getting the chest, which is why you need to beat it. Dash into the button on the right to open the wall back up and ignore the door below you, as it just brings you back to the start of the room.

If you want the gem, you will be racing a fireball (left) that will block you from getting the chest if it gets ahead of you (right).

Continue dashing to the right, knowing that this room is rather lengthy and there are many obstacles. When you reach the end, move onto the next room to find a save point and some blocks seemingly preventing you from going further. However, you can dash into these blocks to make them move, so this on the first two. Move along to the right, defeating the fire slimes and other creatures in your way, until you get to a dead end. There was one ledge above the "crying" statue in the background, which actually houses a secret chest. However, you need to get rid of all of the flying enemies in the room first before it spawns. To get to the chest, there is one of the movable blocks to the left of the ledge, on top of the highest platform.

Knock this to the left, onto the middle platform, then dash into it twice to the right. Quickly get on it, then double jump to the chest to get 50 coins. At the very end, you will be able to see a hole in the wall that your snake form could crawl through. To the right of the chest you just opened, there is another movable block that can be knocked to the right, where it will be flush against the hole. Crawl through the hole, then dash up the incline and into the next room. There is a chest in this room, which involves a little bit of work to get to it. The button at the beginning just respawns the movable block next to it.

Block Puzzle

To begin, move the block to the right, where it will fall onto the geyser. You can now ground pound the block to move the geyser all the way down to the ground. As soon as it is, move it to the right and onto the second geyser. At this point, you can let the geyser go all the way to the top, placing the movable block on the top row. Move it once more to the right, being mindful of any flame enemies popping out of the lavafall, then freeze the lavafall for a second to allow yourself to quickly dash one last time into the block, moving it onto the button. Return to the beginning of the room and respawn a new block, noting that the button will remain pressed.

Onto the normal path through the room, do the same as the first time, but when the block is on the second geyser, move it to the right when you can, then quickly hop over the geyser. The block will stop next to a bombable block, so destroy it, then push the block onto the third geyser. As before, quickly push it right onto the ledge, then take a second breather to open the chest for a Legendary Gem. Keep pushing the block to the right, being careful of the fireballs coming from below, until you get it eventually on the geyser in the bottom right. This will push the block into a button that opens the door in the top right.

The Ice equipment really helps out a lot inside of the Volcano (left). Do a downward smash attack when a block is over the lava geyser to push it down (right).

The Running Lion

In the next room, there is a button on the ground to the right of the large geyser, which makes a slingshot appear in the middle of the room for a short period of time. Quickly switch over to frog form and use it to get to the top, where there is a save point and another exit to your left. Ignore that for right now and drop back down, exiting to the right. Bypass the fire dropping from the ceiling (take note that they will be relevant in a mere moment) and look at the flying creatures on the right side. They are doing nothing but floating there, and there is a sign on the ground underneath them.

The sign mentions hitting the creatures in the right order without touching the ground and to refer to the flames for the answer. This means looking at the number of flames coming out of the ceiling to the left, which is to the order of 1-4-6. The only way to hit them all without touching the ground is to use the lion's downward thrust. Bounce off the first, then use your double jump to get to the fourth and with enough momentum, you should be able to reach the sixth enemy. Collect the 20 gold coins in the corner, then open the chest that appeared on the ground for a Gold Armor Part.

Return to the previous room and get back to the top. Before you do anything in here, note that you will be using the lion's dash a lot, so be ready to switch over to it as soon as you break through the block with the snake. The ceiling will be coming down in this section, and some enemies will pop out of the lava, chasing you. About halfway through, you will have to break through some blocks below you, then there will be a small section that requires the snake.

Quickly make it through this, as the lava will begin rising from below you, then there will be more running. A brief moment will stop you, asking you to crawl through another space with the snake, then it will be smooth sailing to the end. Once you do, don't exit just yet, as you probably saw a music sheet at the beginning. To get to this, you will need to jump up to a hidden alcove above the snake hole on the bottom. This houses another snake hole leading to a series of rooms that has you jumping from moss to moss and dodging fireballs. Should you perish, then you won't have to do the whole running sequence again, so that's a plus.

After the lion section where you avoid being crushed, you can jump into the ceiling at this spot to find a hidden snake hole (left). This will lead into a gauntlet with the snake that brings you to the Music Sheet (right).

The last room is definitely the most difficult, but you can stop on the corners to avoid the fireballs. At the end, pick up the Music Sheet - Danger Zone III, then crawl through the hole to return to the beginning of the dash room. Once you're finished, crawl through the hole to return to the left side of the room. Exit to the left and dash into the gong, which opens a shortcut nearby, as well as knocks off a piece of the mural in the main room. Drop down the hole to your right and return to the main room.

Second Gong

For the second gong, you will be going through the top left exit, so you'll need to swing from the right side and double jump to reach the ledge. Whenever you reach the main room after this, bust through the blocks with the lion and begin dashing to the left. This is another room that fills up with lava and is split into three parts. The first part is just the lion and pretty easy, followed by a snake part that just has you busting through bricks. The third part is a little trickier, as you need to swing from rings and use slingshots with the frog to get through it. After a vertical session, you will find yourself going left again, with a slingshot right above a ring. The slingshot connects you with a spring that bounces you backwards, so fall a little bit to catch the ring.

When you get to the turn switch, quickly tongue it and continue to the end. There is a path above you, but it just brings you back to the far right of the room, so don't worry about it and exit left. For this room, just drop down and freeze the lavafall whenever possible. The first one has you dashing through some blocks, while the second requires you to quickly switch to the snake and bust through some more blocks. For the third step, you'll need to freeze the lavafall and dash into the movable block so it lands on the geyser. Once you get to the exit in the bottom left, enter the next room and open the chest in the middle to acquire the Lion Talisman.

This handy little trinket allows you to perform an upward dash attack with the lion, so use it to get to the area above. Freeze the lavafall on the left and quickly grab the cog with the frog's tongue, then drop down on the right and open the door. In the previous room, you can down upward dash up the left side to the checkpoint. Continue dashing upward and head into the next room. First thing you should do here and push the block to the right, then get underneath it and push it up to the next ledge. While it's sitting there, continue to the right and hit the button in the top right corner to open the exit in the lower right.

Now you can push the block onto the geyser and do the downward thrust attack to get to the bottom. The rest of the way is easy, involving the snake for a little bit, so exit the room. The next bit just uses the lion's dashing ability (both normal and upwards) to get to the right, but note that a lot of the platforms here will break away after a few seconds, so be speedy. When you get to the part where you need to assume snake form, one of those serpent-like creatures will spawn behind you. When you get to the end, quickly dash upwards and exit, where the second gong will be waiting for you.

Third Gong

Retreat back to the main room, with the professor, and let's take a small detour. Go back up to where the serpent is located and do an upwards dash to the platform above it. There are two lavafalls on either side of you, but the one on the left is hiding a coin chest that contains 50 coins. Continue upward to find a blacksmith on the right, as well as a hidden door on the left (pig's sniffer), which is housing a fast travel portal. Right now, use one of your Legendary Gems to upgrade the Ice Sword to level 1, which allows it to freeze enemies. That's all for right now, so drop back down to the professor and exit to the right to backtrack for that one thing.

Go to the room with the rising and falling lava, finding the platform in the middle that brings you to that one door. There will be a lone flame enemy hopping around, as well as a music sheet. Equip your fire sword and strike the creature twice to make it grow, then don the ice sword and wait until it's on the right side. Freeze it in place, hop on top of it, then quickly assume snake form, jumping into the little alcove with the Music Sheet - Adventure Zone II. Double back to the professor and jump/dash all the way to the top of this screen to find two ways to go.

Before that, there is a hidden chest at the top, which is one of those magic ones. It requires 15 tornado spells to open it, which you should have right now, and you'll acquire a Legendary Gem. You can't do anything to the left at the moment, so head to the right. In the small hallway there, use the pig's nose to find a hidden chest that contains a Legendary Gem. Beyond that will be Pepelogoo in a cage, as well as three statues spitting out fireballs on the left side. Freeze the fireballs and use them as footholds to reach the top of the room, where you can find a button on the ceiling that will free your blue, little friend.

Drop back down and speak to him, which prompts him to accompany you for a little bit. Continue right, getting rid of the fire serpent, then keep going until Pepelogoo gets stuck in the snake hole. Give him a little push with the lion's dash and follow him into the next room. You shouldn't have to worry about Pepelogoo getting hurt, as it has no bearing, so carve a path for him through the lavafalls to the next exit. Here, you'll have to move blocks around to allow your friend to reach the top of the room. It's obvious at the beginning, but once you gain access to the middle of the room, you might be a tiny bit lost. Get a tiny dash going to the left and jump to hit the one block to the left, which will reveal a hole Pepelogoo can squeeze through, with some help.

He'll open the door on the right, allowing you to press on to the next room. He'll fly off on his own, leaving you to your own devices once again. As soon as you gain control, double jump up and to the left to find a hidden passage, leading to the coin chest you saw before with Pepelogoo, which has 50 coins. There will be fire serpents here that you'll need to freeze, then use them as platforms to reach the right side. Whenever you manage to get over there, you will find some acrobatics waiting for you in the next room. Note that the floor towards the right side will break away when you stand on it, so you need to move quick if you fall. What you need to do is latch onto the ring with the frog, then while you're in the air, quickly switch to the snake to stick to the moss. Move onward and there will be another instance of this, but with a slingshot.

At the top of the room, you can only go right, so head in that direction and keep going right, into a room with four fireballs shooting down from the ceiling. You'll need to freeze the fireballs and jump across them so you can reach some ledges on the right side, allowing you to reach a blue chest with a Legendary Gem. Return to the previous room and let the trail break under you, then exit via the bottom. Here, you'll just need to get to the bottom of this vertical room using your powers. Follow the coins at the beginning to avoid some spikes, then the rest of the way is just some simply platforming and fights with enemies you've already fought.

At the bottom, some Ice Boots will be waiting for you in a chest, so equip them once you've grabbed them. With these on, you'll be able to walk on the lava, so go right and up, then dash into the blocks on the right to make the lava start rising. It moves pretty slowly, so you should be able to see where you're going without too much danger. There will be a short section where you'll need to hop back and forth between moss on walls to avoid fireballs in snake form, but it doesn't last too long. You will have a choice of a left or right side with some spikes, with the left being narrow and just containing some coins, so go right to be safer.

Once you finally reach the top, return to the save point to the left and step on the geyser to form a safe platform. Transform into the pig and quickly ground pound the geyser (the lion seems to break the platform with his down attack) until you can slip to the exit. You're now in the upper part of the big room with the serpents and while you can drop down to the lower section, there is an exit in the upper left that leads to a coin chest. Forgo the lion and take the frog form, as you will need to swing from some rings. With the ice boots on, you can just stand on the serpents now instead of having to freeze them, so that's a plus. The rings are in between the two serpents and make sure you save your double jump for getting onto the second serpent.

Jump to the exit to find an annoying room with a bunch of geysers, some lavafalls and the annoying flying enemies. The main problem here are the enemies, but with the ice sword, you can freeze them and get rid of them permanently. Move left, knowing full well you can stand on the geysers now, until you get to some alternating geysers. Be extra careful to not hit the spikes here, as they deal a lot of damage. Continue left and you should be able to spy a chest above you, with a tiny gap and some blocks in the way. The method to get to this chest will become clear as a serpent appears, but take care of the other enemies first (they will respawn eventually). As the serpent coils upward, wait until it's level with the blocks, then switch to the snake and bust through, opening the chest for 50 coins. Exit to the left and smack the gong to break off a third piece for the mural.

Fourth Gong

Return to the main room with the professor and drop down to the bottom, taking a look at the mural in the background. Glance at the top left corner of it to see what looks like some lava geysers. Note their position and head all the way back to the top, taking the top left exit where you should see the final gong above you. Ignore it right now and continue left, to a room with four geysers and a chest behind a locked wall. If you recall the mural, you should have a good guess what you need to do here in this room. Start at the left geyser and pound it down twice, then the second from the left needs dropped one. The third geyser can be left alone and the one on the right needs pounded down three times. If quick enough, the door to the left will open, so grab the Gold Boots Part from the chest.

If you come here on your own, it can be a bit confusing on what to do (left). However, there is a clue on the mural in the main room with the professor (right).

Alright, to get to the final gong, you'll need to take a long and scenic route, so return to the professor and take the exit to the left of him. This might take a few tries, but you'll need to jump up and use the serpent's body as a platform for the block on the left side. Once you get the block on the right platform, push it over onto the button, opening the way to the door. In the next room, the lava will go up and down, so use it to get to the left while avoiding spikes. You'll also have to avoid being crushed, but there's an easy way to get past all of that. On the highest safe platform before you have to go downward, jump up and to the left to find a hidden passage, allowing you to go straight to the exit without having to worry about all of that.

In the next room, stand on the geyser and pound it down, then make platforms across the lava down there. This will let you hit the button on the ceiling to make a block fall and not have it be destroyed. Quickly push it left onto the second geyser, riding it up, and push it onto the other button. Drop down to the left, looking out for the slime and hit the lightning column (with some lightning, of course) to spawn a block that will start moving to the left. Before it drops off the edge, do an upward dash with the lion to knock it onto the middle ledge, where it won't slide anymore. Make some safe platforms on the lava, then knock the block off to the left, quickly getting it onto the geyser.

From here, you can now push it over onto safe land (may need to do a jumping dash), where you'll have to knock it up from below and then left, onto the button. The next room will have some large geysers pop out of the ground from the right and left positions, with the middle one being dormant. There are two exits you can take here, but for now, go through the lower left one. This next room has a bunch of fireballs falling from the ceiling, as well as the hopping flames. About halfway up the slope, you should see some breakable blocks on the ceiling. This will reveal a small ledge to stand on and there will be some smoke to the right of it. The smoke unveils a lever, that when struck with a boomerang, will drop a big boulder that pretty much stops the enemies from respawning in this corridor.

As you continue onto the next room, there will be a lone hopping flame that continually falls into the lava, so let's make a path for him. When it's on the far wall, freeze him and use its body as a platform to squeeze through the small opening with the snake. Dash upwards and cross the shaky bridge to your right. When you break through the blocks above you, break out the pig form, jump and sniff to find a hidden platform with a lightning rod on it. Activate it to make another ledge appear above it, which will make things easier in a moment. Now, you see the flying enemies to your left and you should know what to do. The easier way to do this is perform a downward thrust with the lion while yielding the ice sword.

You can use the downward thrust to freeze the enemies for you to stand on (left). At the top, there is a hidden alcove in the ceiling at around this spot (right).

This will freeze the enemies and allow you to stand on them without slipping off. While standing on the final one, switch over to your frog form and use the slingshot to your left, knowing you'll need to attach to some rings to your right while in the air. You should now land on the platform you made appear earlier, allowing easy access to the platform above you. The breakable bridge is hiding a secret, though, which is just a little bit left from the right wall. Either use your frog's tongue or dash upward to find a false ceiling, leading to a door, letting you grab a Super Boomerang Truffle. Return to the fall-apart bridge, head left and grab the slingshot to get into the next room with a save point.

Guiding the Boulders

Stand on the fire to the right of the save, which is actually a geyser and notice the button on the ceiling to your left. Hitting this button drops a small boulder on the left, which will need to be brought all the way to the far right. You will need to wait until the geyser near you is up and as soon as it is, just dash to the right with the ice boots on you. The boulder will roll along behind you, so you don't have to worry about it. Continue dashing to the right, across the fall-apart platforms, making sure they come back before the boulder comes to them. When you get to the lavafall, you have to time your freezing of it to have the boulder pass under it. When it reaches the lava in the bottom right, the wall on the right blocking the exit will fall, leading to a second boulder puzzle.

The second puzzle is a little more involved and definitely more skill-based. After hitting the button to spawn the boulder, you need to charge upwards to knock the blocks into the air, which will give the boulder enough momentum to move onto the next path. Do this for the two blocks to bust open the path to the blue chest, which contains a Power Gem. Go back to the beginning and guide the boulder through two of the blocks, then dash to the right to create a path to the lower right. Dash upwards through the breakable blocks to avoid hitting the boulder, where it will create a path to the exit for you.

To get the Power Gem, you will have to use the upwards dash on the blocks to guide the boulder to break the stone blocks.

Back to the Gong

Just dash into the large stalactite to make it block the geyser in the room below, causing a new geyser to form in the middle. The objective is the top of the middle, but the middle geyser isn't going to get you there in its current state, so you'll need to drop another stalactite on the right side now. Drop down and find the exit in the middle on the right side. The first obstacle here is a large lavafall. You'll have to freeze this in two spots to get past, so start high for the first one, then go lower for the second time.

In this room, you can go high or low, so start with the lower path. In the lower right corner is a button on the ceiling, which opens the ceiling to the right of it, but there's nothing there. Look for the breakable blocks just left of the button and head up in that direction. This will put you next to another button that spawns a cog in that little area with the retractable ceiling. So, spawn the cog and head around to the left, down and right to get back to the bottom right. Create some platforms with some ice boots, then hit the button to make the cog drop.

Grab it with the frog's tongue, then make your way back to the upper left, spitting it out to open the door. There will be some more geysers here, separated by a wall that has a tiny opening near the top, small enough that only a snake would fit through it. So, stand on the geyser with the ice boots equipped, then change into the snake before it reaches the top to avoid hitting the spikes. Wait for the geyser on the other side to drop down before dropping down yourself, noting you have to quickly change into the frog or lion as you perform this action. Ride it back to the top, changing back into the snake, then squeeze through the hole on the left side to get to the exit. You'll be at the second stalactite, so dash into it to drop it.

You will now be able to reach the top of the large area, thanks to the middle geyser going up and down. Exit via the top and head through the door to come to a large pinball-like area filled with springs. At the very top of the room is a blue chest locked behind a door. To gain access to the chest, you'll have to hit two buttons hidden throughout this room. The first one is on the left side, so make your way over there, preferably down a slope that you slide down. This will put you in a little section with some moving springs and a spiked ceiling. Carefully make your way across these, to the right, and on the first safe platform will be the first button above you.

To get to the other, you'll need to head to the right side, pretty much straight across from the first button. You'll end up in a small area with more springs, as well as fireballs popping out of the lava; the button will be on the ceiling in the upper right corner of this section. With the gates open, you can make your way to the top of the room and open the chest for a Power Gem. There is also another button up here, which opens the exit on the right side. A save point will be at the entrance of this next room, which will likely be needed. Your objective here is to ride a serpent across while avoiding the flying enemies and spikes. The double spikes will likely need a dashing jump to clear.

You will have to go through two little mini-gauntlets to open the doors and reach the chest with the Power Gem at the top of the pinball area.

The serpent will eventually move up a little bit, requiring you to assume snake form to crawl under the wall. From there, jump up to the next bit, where you'll have to dash to the right and jump over some stuff. Quickly destroy the bomb blocks at the end, then jump back onto the serpent, ducking underneath the next wall. See the ground below you? Hop down to it when you can and simply wait until another serpent appears to the right. This one will carry you through more obstacles, starting with fireballs from the ceiling, but you can just hold up through this without worry. Next is another flying enemy, followed by a stalactite.

Note that this will destroy part of the serpent, so be ready for that. More rocks will fall from the ceiling, destroying more of the serpent. Make sure you hop to the safe platform to avoid getting hit by a rock, then jump to the exit to avoid falling to your doom at the end. Enter the door to finally arrive at the fourth, and final, gong. Return to the main room and speak to the professor to learn some lore, as well as the floor being weak enough to bust yourself. At this point, there will be a little backtracking, so use your Teleport Rod to go back to Aeria. Travel to the equipment shop to find a new weapon (Knight Spear), as well as a Golden Elixir Recipe. The latter will make all Elixirs now recover all of your health, instead of just a certain amount.

Cleaning Up the Volcano

Return to the room with the professor and exit to the right. Ride the geyser here to the upper portion of the room, and enter the next one. This place is riddled with bombs, that when triggered, will outright kill you. You will need to use both the lion and pig forms to get through this deadly maze. First, dash to the right and stop right underneath the first opening at the top. Dash upwards to the top, then to the right, into the second opening. In the middle portion here, downward thrust with the lion to find a platform underneath you. Dash right into the next opening and stop, then downward thrust to the lava on the bottom. For the last bit, dash to the right, but stop right underneath the opening immediately left of the chest. Dash up, then left just a tiny bit, then up to finally reach the chest that contains a Life Heart.

You have to use the pig's nose to sniff out a way through the mine field (left). At the end, you will be rewarded with a Life Heart (right).

There is one final item to get in the Volcano, so as before, return to the professor's room. Get up to the level with the serpent and take the left exit here, continuing into the room that filled with lava. After the first wall of breakable bricks, jump over the little pool of lava that the dashing enemy comes out of, then look at the ceiling to find what looks like breakable blocks there. Double jump and dash upwards to find a hidden door, which will take you to another Super Fire Truffle. That's all for the collectibles inside of the Volcano, so let's go and find out what's underneath that plate by the professor. Do the downward thrust on it to find an empty room, but drop down into the pit on either side to find the boss.

Voldrake is definitely intimidating with his size, plus he's hanging out in the background, where it looks like you can't hit him normally. In actuality, you can cause him some discomfort by double jump and hitting him in his head area. Do this enough times and he will become dizzy for a few seconds, which is your cue to do a dash attack to knock him into the spikes on the walls or ceiling. While trying to do this, he can do a number of attacks. One is shooting a big fireball in a direction that explodes when it comes into contact with something. Another attack is a constant stream of fire, but this can be avoided by sticking to the edges of the arena.

He can also spawn one of those hopping flames, as well as a dashing enemy. Both of these can be defeated to earn money or even hearts, if you're running low. After hitting him once, a stalactite will fall onto the ground and Voldrake will fly into the background. A cursor will appear and eventually turn red after a few seconds, which is where Voldrake will charge at the screen. It's best to make this happen on the stalactite to get rid of it. Upon landing again, some literaly fire waves will appear, so avoid them by dodging in the blank spaces. He will revert to this pattern until you cause damage the next time by knocking his head into the spikes.

The full Ice set can actually protect you from taking damage from the flamethrower attacks.

The only thing that will change is the size and pattern of the fire waves. Note that in order to get the spikes on the side, you'll need to wait until Voldrake's head sways over to that side. Keep this up until you use the last set of spikes, after which, Voldrake will be finished.

Your reward will be the Great Orb of the Dragon, as well as the Dragon Talisman that the professor found. Before you have a chance to test it out completely, the volcano erupts and you're launched into a side-scrolling shoot-em-up section. Just dodge all of the fire balls at first, then you'll have to fight through waves of enemies (or avoid them).
