15 inch laptop Reddit

I've owned a 15.6 inch Windows laptop for the last 6 years. Thinking of trying out a mac but my budget can only get me a 13.3 inch M1 Air. Kind of iffy about the screen size if I can get used to it after using a bigger screen for so long

im a student but dont need to take the computer with me too much to the college. which screen size you think is better to be my main pc at home? my uses are intenet, pdf read, excel, sql and that kind of stuff. now i have 15 inch laptop but not full hd screen so i dont know how it will be to work on a full hd screen. does the 14 is more comfortable? games and movies will not be used on this. this will be my only computer as i said. thanks and sorry for my english!

Is a 15 inch laptop for college practical (taking it in a backpack, using it in class/library)? If there is anyone who uses a 15 inch laptop for school or has used one please let me know of your experience. Were you able to comfortably carry it around and use it during class and other places (library, cafes, etc.)?

Hey y'all, I'm deciding whether I should get a 14 inch (1080p) or 15.6 inch laptop (1080p).

I've owned a 14 inch asus vivobook with a 1080p display, but the scaling is too weird on Ubuntu, PopOS, and all the other non-kde distros. Scaling at 100% is too small, and 200% is too big, so I am forced to use kde distros on it with 150% scaling.

I've heard that Thinkpads have good linux support in general, but does this issue still persist on the 14 inch 1080p Thinkpads? If so, would picking a 15.6 inch model fix that?

Looking at the Thinkpad L14, E14, and L15, to be specific.

Edit: accidentally put 125% instead of 150% oops!

Edit 2: Thanks, everyone! It seems the general consensus here with 14 inch 1080p laptops is to either scale the fonts or use a de that supports fractional scaling (kde, deepin, gnome + experimental features or xrandr). The numpad, typing on the 'left,' and the extra weight that comes with 15.6 laptops is totally up to preference :)

Edit 3: Similar thread on r/thinkpad for those wondering as well: https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/o8r2qa/how_good_is_the_linux_display_scaling_on_14_inch/

Is 15.6" just too big for commuting, toting around campus, or bringing with you on short trips?

If you already have a 15.6" screen, would you repurchase a laptop at that size or would you prefer a smaller screen next time?

Need a little advice here

I'm planning on buying the new Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 for college but i'm not sure of which one to buy. I personally like the size of a 15 inch screen but i'm afraid a 15 inch might be too big for college. And it will also be my main laptop to use at my dorm so that's why I'm trying to avoid the 13 inch one.

Anyway, the 15 inch one weighs about 3.4 pounds and the 13 inch model weighs about 2.7 pounds. I would like to know if 3.4 pounds is a decent weight to carry almost everyday or should I still go for the 2.7 pounds version?

Hi all! Will be entering uni in this aug thus want to get a new laptop for the next 4 years! Currently now deciding between the dell xps 9300 n the dell xps 15 9500, but not sure which shld i get!!

Wanna do some light gaming if possible (but nt very important) on the side so was thinking of the 15 but nt sure if its portable enough and will it be a hassle? Any seniors out there think that the portability > gaming function ? Personally dont game much and only do whn im bored but just want to get an all in one laptop as this is the only computer i have!

According to dell’s website the 15 is roughly 1.83kg while the 13 is 1.2kg!!

Would any seniors recommend a 13 or 15? Will be entering a computer science course too, so nt sure if this extra screen will be beneficial when doing programming etc, too!

Any seniors will be able shed some advice would be good! Is the extra weight carried around worth it and is it bearable? :0 will most prob be staying in hall too so nt sure if this would save the hassle of bringing it around if i were to get a 15

I have used a 13.3inch for the past several years and the size is cool, no problems with weight or portability but occasionally I do feel the screen is slightly small.

I'm considering getting a 15inch (apparently some laptops offer 15in screens in 14in size laptops) and just trying to decide if that is too big.

I often try to work on a desk but occasionally will work on a couch with laptop in lap or also using it on a play on the table.

Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated!

I already have my heart set on what laptop I am going to buy, but I need some guidance on what size to get.

For starters, the 14" would cost me $650 after upgrades, and the 15.6" would cost $700 and I don't have to do any other upgrades. The 15.6" has 256gigs storage, while the 14" has 512, but storage isn't a concern for me much.

I am going to be carrying this laptop around me school for hours a day. Additionally I am going to be using this laptop without an external monitor at home for hours a day on hw/study/movies or tv. The 15.6 model has a number pad which the 14 doesn't, but I never use it on my home desktop anyways.

If anyone could help me who has used one or both of these laptop sizes and provide advice on whether I will regret getting 15.6 for lack of portability, or 14 for lack of screen real estate, I would appreciate it.
